I have just received my first ever speeding ticket[1]. 131 in a 120,
    which seems a bit harsh.

I thought it was very nice of the Belgians to provide a box where you
can offer an excuse as to why you had to speed.

[1]I updated my sat nav and it was flagging up camera false alarms every
5kms or so. Did it flag up the actual camera? Did it ****.

I usually go for reading the fucking great round signs with numbers in
them. I wouldn't worry. Less than 30kph over is usually not the end of
the world. A fine and maybe a point if they are anything like the krauts.

Not quite sure what your point is here, are you suggesting that I
wasn't aware of the speed limit.

    krauts.

50 EUR, no points, though I'm more concerned that they might want me
    to exchange my licence.

  6. Given that it is well known that only gurls take note of speed limits it
    remains a possibility.

Get a Belgique licence, then. You're back in Blighty in a couple of
months, aren't you? Bonus! Win - win ;-)

Ah, sorry, didn't realise you were deliberately making progress.
Nah. It's frowned upon but the local plod have seen mine quite a few
times and although they make noises, I would have thought if they could
force me to change it they would have by now and it's probably all EU
regulated, Keep a low profile for a while and don't worry about it.

    way.

Licence needs to be renewed at age 70 and photocard every 10 years,
    IIRC

There'd be no point me trading my UK licence for a German one. I'd still
    have just as many points.

Yah, just had to renew my photocard since it's 10 years since I
had to finally turn in my Swiss licence.

Gah, 70 too? Does that mean I have to renew my licence six months
after the next photo renewal? What a pisser! Hopefully I'll be retired
and back in Oz by then. OTOH some of the stuff I'm working on won't even
be deployed into the experiment by 2020!

I had to send my Canadian one to the DVLA before they'd give me my UK

or ask for a duplicate before you exchange the licence as you have "lost"
the original. You will physically have a foreign & domestic licence after
the exchange. Only one will be legal but UK plod wouldn't know that if
someone showed a foreign licence. Of course, vehicle registration and
insurance details could betray the fraudulent & stupid...
