Anyone with a garage full of 44s?

"The figure I'd use is around $182 a barrel. We need to price oil
realistically to control its demand. That is because global production is
    peaking."

"The people who will be least affected will be the super poor, who already
have no access to energy, and the super rich who do not care if oil is $100
    a barrel."

"It is everyone who is in the middle who will be hurt the most," says Mr
Bakhtiari. "When the crisis comes there will be enormous changes."

Give it up Gary. Nobody cares about hundreds of Iraqi POWs being
tortured, or the way the US, Britain and indeed Australia's
governments seem to be intent on turning Fascist[1].

What's important is that you can get out of tickets for riding 50kph
over the limit and being able to wear your helmet while you pay for
    fuel.

  4. While others still are quietly beavering away at something which'll, one
day, render it unnecessary for oil to be used for a purpose as grubby as
electricity generation, ensuring it persists longer as a source of
    propulsion for motorcycles.

  5. Well, some of us _do_ care, but are of the opinion that here is not the
most appropriate place to discuss it... I'm kinda glad to see people
like Gary and Gerry still care enough to bash their heads on this
particular newsgroup wall about it though.

    inside a Spada???

    Mate, what fuel?

"Oil fuels 95 percent of all transportation and a significant portion of
global food production. Industrial societies are dependent on a vast,
steady flow of inexpensive petroleum for just about everything we make
and do. Disrupt this flow, and modern society as we know it is
    inconceivable."

  8. A garage full of 44s is no use because fuel goes off.

As well as that, if you want to store more than 200 litres of petrol in WA,
you need to store it further from your house than a quarter acre block will
allow you to, and you need a permit from the Mines Dept.

I'm glad it wasn't another dribbly discussion about polarised alkene chains
that glow under high temperature exposure to free radicals.

I've been aware of Peak Oil for a few years now, Gary. However people
generally don't want to listen to bad news[1], and by the time enough
people are convinced that it's a real threat it'll be WAY too late for
a "graceful conversion to alternatives" anyway.
Hmmm? I thought *I* was the only one spending my weekends digging
fallout shelters and cleaning my guns...

[1] How long did it take before the general populace accepted that
global warming was a real threat? 30 years? And what have they done
    about it?

  20. And counting, BT... no shortage of complaints out there about this new
airconditioning gas not being as good[1] as that old airconditioning gas
they say you can't use any more, either.

[1] It just isn't, all right. What would you know about it?
