They look fairly similar in specs and performance to the one Jaycar sell
over the counter for a little under $70 (or for as little as $50 if you
    do a group purchase.

I fitted one to my bike two weeks ago. It hasn't been stolen yet.

Seems to work. I need to relocate the speaker thingy, because where it
is under the seat it's fairly muffled. (but it still gives a nice loud
chirp if someone bumps the bike. I have it set on fairly low
sensitivity, but putting something on the seat, bumping against the
bike, or unlatching a pannier is enough to set it going.

Oh, and the main difference is that on the Jaycar one, the piezo siren

is separate from the alarm unit, and can be mounted on a different part

of the bike. All the other specs seem the same.

'cause I'm an inner suburban dweller without driveway or garage. The
bike lives on the street full time.

Looking at the price of this alarm, I figured I'd just worry more if I
    didn't get it.

(Plus it's going to be really handy finding the bike in the carpark
    after the GP!)

Well if you've worked out my dormant rarely used yahoo address, I'm
impressed as I've never mentioned it on here to the best of my
knowledge. Which address did you really send it to ?

<sigh> Straight through to slips... Moike, regardless of where it lives
is the superbike really a high theft risk ? It's not exactly high on the
list for pro thieves, so that just leaves joyriders, a decent chain
    should stop them.
Fair enough, I found bike alarms a pain in the arse and liable to leave
you stranded in the middle of nowhere in the rain when they failed
because they're never properly water tight*.
Does it have a remote ? Hehe now there's a good reason to fit one.

    * A certain ZZR and a certain bloody insurance coy who wouldn't insure
me unless I fitted one, bastards.

You'r right, of course. My primary defence against thieves is the
Triumph tiger that parks 30 m away, and the 250, scooter and HD that
park in plain view within 100 m. I don't expect the alarm will stop a
determined thief (who would, after all need to be a little unbalanced).
It might deter casual passers by who might be inclined to tamper.

It also causes me a little concern that during the day I park it outside
my building at Uni (often until late at night) and I have been known to
upse students by being thingy about plagiarism....

All, up, it was a small price to pay not to have to occasionally think
    "should I have fitted one?"
This one is mounted up under the seat in a nice water tight spot.
So far no false alarms, except when I've forgotten to turn it off.
    Of course! ;-)

*shrug* A mate's XJ650 got stolen. There's no accounting for
the depths some folks will sink to.

Yeah well that's what I thought too. I can assure you I didn't enjoy
being stranded in the middle of bum **** nowhere in the pouring rain at
10pm - but hey that's why I'll never have one of the bloody things again
    if I can help it.

Then again if you fitted it, you'll at least know which wires to cut so
you can leave the bloody thing on the side of the road where it belongs
    (preferably in a puddle).

Well it certainly wasn't me, I just logged into yahoo mail to be told
they'd deactivated my email account as I hadn't logging in for more than
4months, so it would have bounced...it's active now..

(thinking the above valid email address would be a better way to get

  19. In retrospect, I didn't send it to any of your accounts. lol

Temporary brain fart that confused you with someone else. Don't ask.
If it's rarely used, there'd be a pile of spam there. :)
