Anyone near Carlisle?

Cheers. I've spoken with YTC and yes, he can stash it for a week. It
all depends on whether I can pay the seller by the time Lesley passes
Carlisle. I've given him the option of trusting me with a cheque (Hah!
But I do have decent feedback) or letting me transfer the dosh straight
    into his bank account.

Then I'll trog up to Bruce's, probably next Friday afternoon, bring him
up some goodies from this weekend's French run, stop the night, get
pissed, and come down the next day. Job done.

I've looked and looked for that log book; it hasn't turned up yet, but
I'm going to tear the fucking room apart at the weekend, and if that
doesn't help, I'll order a new one for it - sorry for the delay.

There are some bits that I want for The Doctor's. The plan was to buy
another 400 Four that was also on Ebay and build one superb one.
However, the other one didn't make reserve..... I'm still corresponding
with the seller to see if we can agree a deal.

If this falls through, then I'll probably flog the bits I don't want.
That includes seat, exhaust, mudguards....... they're likely to be
(very) expensive, though[1]. If you want some other bits, then claret
or curry is always a good negotiable instrument ;-) and if it's just
some minor odds & sods, beer has been known to work........

Am I right in thinking that the bike you've got is the black one I
    originally found for Ace?

[1] Going rate for a really good 400/4 rear guard is now ukp200,
believe it or not. Any serviceable one (ie: one that isn't rusted
through but has maybe some surface rust and a dimple or two) that can
be re-chromed will fetch close to a ton. Front guards - ukp50 and
upwards for anything not dinged or rusted through. Grab handles - a ton
if as new; 40-50 quid if good. Seats - still available new from Dave
Silver for about ukp150, whioch isn't too bad (he got the OE
manufacturer to keep production rolling, and imports a couple of
hundred every year). Complete OE exhausts - also still available for
close to ukp300, so a perfect used system will fetch 200 sovs. That's
    actually cheapish, when you think.

This one has got a rebored set of barrels with four brand new pistons
and rings - that's ukp150 for the pistons and rings alone, new. If you
wanted a new barrel set - Dave Silver has them, for ukp300. In that
table-load of new wrapped spares, I can see a camchain tensioner blade
set. That's something I'd just salt away, on the basis that you're
going to need it one day, with a 400/4.

The new clutch - The Doctor's could use that, as the springs and plates
are probably just a bit tired after nearly 30 years. It doesn't slip,
but I could just whap the new unit in.

Brand new carbs, ffxake - how many 400 Fours are out there with
    completely gunged-up and u/s carbs?

The list goes on and on - Timo hit the nail on the head with his
posting. This is an absolute treasure trove of unobtainable 400/4 bits,
and I'm still pinching myself that I got it for the price I did. :))
It'll keep The Doctor's bike on the road until Doomsday.

    TOG@toil, ,
I'll take them. Name your price.
I'm not around to deliver claret, curry or beer in person, but I can
    arrange something...
Yeah, mine's got some hideous pattern thing, so I'll take the rear
    guard, no question.
I'll need to get my Uncle to go out to his shed and take a look if it
needs a front. Unless you or Ace remember?
I took a new silencer to France and Ace fitted it before I left. I
    think that was about 115ukp.
That's all stuff I'm never going to touch. I'll order those things
from Dave Silver when the heroes at Swift Motorcycles tell me I need
    them.
That bike was surging a little when I was riding from Basel to
Leatherhead. Couldn't decide if it was clutch slip or carb shit.
Couldn't determine if it was always in the same rev range, or what.
Was going to get Swifts to do a good full service when they MOT it.

    TOG@toil, ,
    That won't be necessary.

Email me when you've got it, and taken the bits you want.

At this time of year, it's nearly always full.

City centre car parking in Carlisle is a nightmare at peak times, and
    only mildly unpleasant elsewhen.
