Anyone near Carlisle?

  1. Paging the Underground Railway!

I must keep away from Ebay. I must keep away from Ebay. I must keep away
    from Ebay.....

    ....but I know I won't.

See, I've bought a dismantled restoration project Honda 400 Four. An'
it's in Carlisle. And I'm in SW London.

    Ho hum.

I'm prepared to trog up there and back (Bruce! Can I bum a night at the
Porter's Lodge on the way?), but in the unlikely event that there's
anyone in the area who's coming down south, and can bring an entire
dismantled bike with them, a good Chinese or curry or Italian and an
entire evening on the piss in a boozer near here awaits.....

    1. How soon do you want it?

    2. Is it dismantled enough to fit into the back of an Audi 100 estate?

    3. Must it be brought all of the way back?

Carlisle is only an hour away from me and I'm down in Milton Keynes on 9th
December. I was planning to car-share with somebody else on the way down,
but I could take the Audi down if nobody else volunteers to collect for you.

You should have posted this on Saturday, I was in Penrith on Sunday
evening and yesterday, about 15 miles from Carlisle. I could quite
easily have emptied the Golf out and got it all in there.

  4. Well, the auction only timed out an hour or so ago.

  5. Well, a week or 10 days would be nice. I'll send the seller a cheque.
    It'll have cleared by then.
Yes. It's basically a rolling chassis and everything else is in boxes. I
asked him if he could break it down further (forks off, etc) and o
probs, apparently. Some things - repainted tank, for example - would
need to be handled very carefully.

    OK, we'll see. Ta.

    Oh, this is it, btw:

Heh. I can see how your mind worked - it's got all the interesting
    parts listed as new...

Let's hope the seat isn't the kind of 'orrible aftermarket plank that
    was on my 750.

Ah, an F1 with rear footrests on the swingarm. Quite rare those.

I've examined the pic closely. It isn't.

My boss has an F2 in burgundy with gold piping in his collection, I was
giving it a once over yesterday. Genuine 8K miles on the clock and
totally unrestored and unmolested aside from having a rack fitted.
There's no sign of the chrome lifting handle either.

Brave, to say this without inspecting the seat IRL. Does sir want
    fries with that?

Well, I'm passing Carlisle this w/e 'cos I'm spending the w/e in
Edinburgh. If you could get yourself to Bruces' gaff I could drop it
    off there for you.

Unlikely in the extreme that I'd be able to assist that much, to be

  15. Heh. IMHO, the chrome buttons are the giveaway. Even in pix, they just
look duller than stock. Besides, I don't think someone would have spent
this amount of cash on it and been a pikey on the seat.

  16. The lifting handle is probably worth more than the rack!

Actually, I don't know. It took me five years to finbd a decent rack.
CB250G5 ones are identical, but it's a matter of finding one that you
*know* will fit. And isn't rusty.

  17. Blimey. I'll get back to you. Problem is that Bruce hasn't got the room
to stash it (I'm pretty sure of that) and that's not enough time for a
cheque to clear with the seller. He does Paypal, but it's above my
limit, aparently. And it takes three or four working days to change it
to a direct debit arrangement with the bank.

I was there last Sat for first time in years. Nice it was but the city
centre parking is even more berserk than I recalled.

    Cheers, Andy.

I could do with some of the bits that TOG's getting on that 400 Four
    for my one [0], that's all.[1]

I'm not ruling out buying another bike, though.

[0] which reminds me, I must get that moved from its temporary lodging
    to my Dad's place.
[1] Hey, TOG, let me know if you're flogging off any bits.
