My GSX-R 600 K2 is still for sale. And it's cheaper than almost
everything on that page, *and* it has engine internals...

The CBR600s with no engine internals are replicas, they've never
actually been raced by any of the riders named - purely display bikes.
    I wouldn't mind the '98 Castrol CBR600 in Toseland livery, because I
have a good '98 model engine in mine and a nice Maxton shock to go with
it. Basically it's a new rolling chassis with cases, still worth a
    grand or so.

Unfortunately I can't afford your Gixer right now, much as I'd love it.

I forwarded that to a (very rich) mate in NZ, & he's going after the
NR. If he wins it, I'll offer to to sort out the shipping this end...

I recall the fuss when the NR first came out, with all the tech showoff-ness
Honda could cram in a single bike. Some people at a Greek motorcycle
magazine went and bought one, then did a full test on the bike. They even
managed to burn the clutch disks during the test.

I rode one belonging to a guy called Phil Janes from Norwich, and to
quote Bear "it wasn't all that".

It's mostly the partially subjective idea of mechanological elegance that
the bike displays rather than any tangible performance benefit. Similar to
why I like pro-arm or gear-driven cams for instance. IIRC it wasn't much/any
faster than the Gixxer 750 of the time in a straight line. Never seen one,
    would love to though.

  11. I could *never* understand why they did that, unless it was because they
feared that Europe would adopt a close-to-100bhp limit.

I think that engine could, possibly, have delivered over 150bhp and
    possibly close to 200bhp.

My question is, why aren't they putting that know how to use now that MotoGP
bikes are all 4 strokes? Is there provision in the rules banning oval
    pistons?

    <fx: googles>

Ah. As you were... (shame really)

2002 GSX-R 600. Owned by me since 2006, ridden in the 2006 Manx GP
(finished in 22nd position, best lap of 115mph). New Ohlins shock in
2006, forks re-valved by Maxton at the same time. Slick Bass prep'd
engine, refreshed in 2007. Power commander, head work, etc, makes
122bhp on his dyno. Spare wheels. Brembo radial master cylinder.
Painted in gash purple, and the *only* thing wrong with it is it could
probably benefit from a new fairing (200 quid or less), as the current
one is the 'spare' I had after I let a mate have the good one at last
    year's MGP.

There's some other stuff I've prolly forgotten.

1800 quid, inc wets on wheels
It's not remotely shagged. It's bloody good.
This is a good race bike with almost new suspension, and a refreshed
engine making good horsepower. In what way *wouldn't* it be better
    than 'an old CBR600'?

Is that like "fanny pink", but a bit darker?
If it's still unsold once our re-mortgage is sorted...

that makes Ogden's 750's power output look particularly shit.

Fair enough, although I like variety when it comes to engine configurations.
I'm not complaining though, V4 vs straight and three different valve control
systems are enough to keep me happy. V5s were nice to have too. Other than
that, I wonder how feasible it would be mid/long-term to bring the
technology to production bikes and what benefits that would have.

Regarding the GP bikes, I'm impressed they're managing better times compared
to the litre ones despite the power deficit and absolutely delighted that
they are a bit of a handful again. As much as I want all riders to be safe,
to me this is the first season after a good while where racing reminds me of
the 2-stroke battles of yesteryear, when riding on the edge often meant
going past it with losing the front or with a (quite often massive)
    highside.
