Anyone know about plumbing?

    Hi,

I have a washing machine and I have just bought a new dishwasher.

the dishwasher connects to the cold water inlet via a cheap and cheerful Y
connector, along with the washing machine.

The waste water pipe for the washing machine goes into a plastic pipe about
2" in diameter, and therefore I have no room for the waste pipe for the
    dishwasher.

anyone have an idea of what I need to do to get them both in?

While you were putting the fancy wall clips on, I beat you to the send

Put a hole in the side of the waste pipe? Obviously the washing machine
outlet will have to be wedged in quite far or else all the waste water
will spout from the hole for you dishwasher outlet.

I replaced the section of pipe just above the U-bend under my kitchen sink
with one that has 2 extra imputs.

    It looks like this -

    \ \ / /

I then fitted the drain pipes for the dishwasher and washing machine to each
of the additional inputs using jubilee clips.

It's all plastic and screw fit so requires minimal plumbing skills.

You can get proper 'junctions' which (after you cut into the waste pipe to
fit them) allow you to crush fit washers outlet pipes etc.. You need one
inlet for each appliance. A good plumbers/builders merchants (not some
poncy showroom) should be able to show you a couple of options.

    Gavsta :
What one should really do, is ask the people you buy it off, when
you buy it. They'll then give you the correct bit of plastic for free.

    Well, that's what I did.

I had to solve this problem a while ago. The dishwasher sits on the
work surface above the washing m/c and now whenever the dishwasher
drains it fills the washing maching drum.

Come to think of it I wouldn't ask me for advice on this.

While most of the solutions proposed here will work, Wickes will
actually sell you a unit (for about a tenner IIRC) that fits in place
of your current connector. It is identical with the exceptions that
it has two connectors for washing machines / dishwashers........

We have one under the sink, but sadly no dishwasher :((

    Marvellous response.

Thanks all, I shall ponder the suggestions and give one or maybe all of em a
    go.

And your right, dishwashers really do rock!

    Indeed.

Is it considered to be normal behaviour to kind of "use" the dishwasher when
you dont *really* need to? Especially when you first get one.

I put all me glasswear in there last night.

Come out loverly and sparkly this morning.

    <sigh>

Heh. I can remember running my newly delivered dishwasher completely
empty, just to see what it sounded like.

Now I pack it tighter than a New Dehli train, just to try and reduce
the frequency of turning the damned thing on.

Cool. I wonder what else can be prepared by dishwasher cooking.
I don't actually have a HWMBO, must just be the way I walk that makes
    you think that.
