  4. Note that with the above you are (still ?) required to provide and use your real
e-mail address, which needless to say may attract spam.....

You'll note however as per the above it's quite possible to stick a spam
trap in there - clearly the one I've used is probably ineffective but
this address is so heavily on the spam lists already I couldn't be
stuffed making anymore than a passing attempt to slow them down

Not when you're posting through their servers. Read their policy again,
    if you value your account.

No. You need to provide your real address when you sign up, but after that,
you can use any spoofed email address, provided you use a real domain name.
I use bigpond.com with a spoofed username, but you can use your own ISP's
name, or any "real" ISP from anywhere in the world.

Exactly. I have hotmail accounts for just that purpose. I have never hidden
my email address and I get very little spam through the filters.

Hotmail actually filters the spam through very well compared to yahoo.
Perhaps I didn't have the proper setting on yahoo.

If that's ALL that pisses you off about iiNet you've very lucky )

Have you considered an alternate ISP?

    Not at all.

Open a hotmail account, open the news account, close the hotmail account when
    the password arrives.
