I used JB Weld successfully on the sump of the GSXR, just used a dremmel to put a grove into the crack then filled it with the gunk. Lasted a year no worries - sump has just been removed and sent for a proper welding job. The crack was through the plug threads and around an inch up the side. I managed to seal it without removing the sump ) Bought the stuff from halfords IIRC.

It's suspended from the engine mounts with no support underneath the motor and there is only a single downtube on the front of the frame.
