    I originally had a set of those on mine, very V7 looking with the
    windscreen, adorned with "Traffico Civil" or some such.

    I took them off and binned them.

    My (ex Spanish police) T3 had that big rubbery console. Inside is the
    large Veglia speedo and small tacho. What year was the one you saw? The
    late model police spec one's were mostly bitsas.

    I kept the tacho for checking engine speeds - should I ever need to -
    it's hanging on the workshop wall.

    Granted no. It was OA£1900 for them over there. Less to you of course.

    How are you enjoying having your shoes licked clean every day?

  4. Oh, he's a good lad. Calls me "boss", I noticed eventually. And we're
    knocking the tendency to write purple prose out of him....

    This is where it gets interesting or at least a bit odd.

    Mine (an ex Spanish police machine) was dated as having a 1979 frame by
    Guzzi.

    It has an aluminium plate on the headstock which is stamped 1982
    (unfortunately now erased because the overlong wiring loom rubbed on it).
    The original wheels (Le Mans pattern) are dated last quarter 1981. The
    original switch gear and Bosch electrics were also dated 1981. It also
    has the later pattern gas strut forks but oddly without the air assist.

    The last of the T3 run were police spec and military models. A lot of
    them built using whatever was lying about.

    I suspect a batch of out of sequence frames were used for the Spanish
    order. There were two other bikes imported from that Lot and both ended
    up with '79 registrations because they had 1979 frames but were assembled
    1982.

  8. I had one that didn't, although to be fair it wasn't bad considering its
    age and mileage. And it was ex plod. It:

    Developed a persistent misfire caused by cack handed plod maintenance
    causing an oil leak into the points housing. This led to a silencer
    exploding on the Elephant and Castle;

    Wore out its big ends and camchain, but these just led to interesting
    noises, I fixed them both before they became terminal. The big ends had
    about 1/8" play when I took it apart and the camchain had eaten into the
    housing by about the same amount;

    Blew the alternator;

    Had an electrical fault in a junction box under the tank, causing it to
    stop completely;

    Dropped a valve. OK, I ignored the "replace the valves at 50K or else" but
    that's not "no attention". This did for the top end of course, but a mate
    had a spare one.

    At this point I gave it away, unfixed, to someone with a family who needed
    a chair puller and had no money. My mate gave him the top end. The last I
    heard it was still going.

    Mind, if "go on forever" refers to forward motion with the brakes applied,
    I agree completely, it was one of the R80/7s with the single disk and BMW
    caliper.

  9. hehe.

    mine has a TLS drum brake. Mind, I've not replaced valves on mine, either.
    don't really know what mileage it's done, as it was assembled from parts and
    probably ain't the original speedo.

    I suspect it would benefit from some new valve guides - one pot is rather
    smoky on over-run.
