Anyone in Leeds? Another SOB....

  1. Ebay item 4522672317

The winning bidder pipped my by less than a fiver, and turned out to be
a timewaster. I've got second bidder option, and I've suggested to the
seller that as the timewaster caused us both hassle, that I'll him 700
quid (which is way over his reserve anyway).

Hell's teeth - it's decades since I've owned an SOHC Honda CB750 Four,
and this loks like a good'un.

Anyone in Leeds who could stash it in a garage or put up a wayward TOG
overnight, if I decide to ride it back home?

    Yes, apart from Bear.

  4. wot TF was the eejit whinging about? looks a nice bike to me, can't see how
it could not be worth having, if you wanted such. And to bid multiple times
on something and then realise it isn't what you thought it was is a new
    level of incompetence.

  5. Exactly what I thought.

Looks all original to me (barring the Motad), very clean, very tidy. I'm
just waiting for the seller to get back to me.

The Older Gentleman was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
And what's wrong with the front of the bike, seeing that the seller
took great care to only supply photos of the arse end of the bike?
    Just like, asking...

  9. Who knows? Even if it's knackered, it can be fioxed. Or broken for
    spares.

700-odd quid is a decent price.

  10. Well, it's mine. ukp700 and he's agreed to slap six months' tax on it
before he sells it, to save me the hassle, so ukp730.

I think that might be quite a fun SOB for the spring and summer. Chimay,
    maybe.

Problem now is what to do - do I drive up there and trailer it back, or
get myself to Leeds somehow and ride it back?

Hm.... late February/early March, on an unfaired SOB. Trailer, I think.
Any chance of a bed for the night, then? Payment in beer and curry....

    The Older Gentleman says...
Fly up, ride back. That's how I collected the Thunderace from Colin last
year. After working out the costs involved in travelling up by
train/car/however and how much to trailer it back, flying/riding back
    worked out cheapest.

  12. Good thinking. I'll check it out.

    Thanks, Loz.

  14. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember
    (The Older Gentleman) saying
    something like:
Trailer. On an unknown SOB, you just don't know what's going to leave
    you stranded.

  16. It wasn't 700 quid.

    <Panic suddenly strikes>

    Er, was it?

  17. Well, there is that. But I have Aunty Carole and AA recovery. The smart
thing to do might be to fy up there, fix it so it dies a few miles away,
and then have it recovered home[1].

But it's a SOB that's in use. I'll risk it. OTOH, if the weather is cack
    I''ll trailer it.

My ShiteOldBeemer - I bought that after it had been laid up for 10
years, did a service on it, and rode it down to the Bol three weeks
    later....

  18. Thanks. I think the Silver Tuddy and trailer will actually use less
fuel. It'll certainly be more comfy.

Incidentally, a geezer came round to have some 400/4 bits off me
yesterday. He turned up on a *lovely* X-registered T3. Ex Italian Plod,
in Carabinieri blue, with a Spada bench seat fitted. Still had those
    bizarre legshields Il Ploddo fitted

Speedo was unusual - one huge speedo, surrounded with the warning
lights. No tacho. Would that be G5 or Convert or summat?

Anyway, it was unbelievable clean and sounded lovely. I drooled briefly.

The G5 was just a Convert with a gearbox. If the speedo surround was black,
    it could have been either:

    http://www.dropbears.com/m/models/guzzi/instruments.htm

If it was shiny aluminium like the top right in the second link, it could
have been something like a Ambassador, Eldorado, V7 or the like.
