    Thanks,
    That was helpful.

swmbo wants her first bike, and just happened to see this item on
ebay. It had 16 minutes left and seemed to be too good to be true.

So we didn't bid on it.

Now we know it's called a bobbin I'm glad we didn't buy it. Sadly,
she thinks that "Bobbin" is a sweet name for a bike and is now
    sulking.

It's quite simple. Hyundai make cars, you wouldn't buy one unless you
had to. Kangda make bikes but.....

    Fair point, well made.

It was a sort of knee jerk ebay thing: "bidding ending soon, it's a
bike, quick! Buy it!" sort of thing

TBH I know bugger all about how ebay works, and even whether it's a
good idea to buy bikes off it.

Leaving the fact that I'm a mechanical numpty aside for the moment,
what do you actually get for your money?

Presumably no guarantee, warranty, etc. So buyer beware and all that
sort of thing. On reflection perhaps ebay isn't for me...

I bought my Bandit 12 unseen through eBay. If it hadn't been as claimed
when I went to collect it then I would have walked away.

To be fair, the Hyundai Coupe is halfway decent and the Getz is a good litle
runabout. Hyundai is a large multinational with a long track record. All
Hyundais have a 5-year manufacturer's warranty and Hyundai cars are in the
top 3 for reliability (better than Mercedes-Benz, BMW or Audi). By
contrast, Kangda motorcycles are made by an entirely Chinese-based
manufacturer with no track record in this country and possibly only one
distributor - quality, reliability, availability of spares etc. are
completely unknown quantities and represent a huge risk.

Now (apart from taking Hog's hand off with the chomp on Hyundai) that
    is useful.

    Ta muchly.

(I suppose if I'd thought about it a little more instead of just
asking the foak I would have come up with something similar, but it's
nice to be told by a reliable source)

    Actually, she wants a CG125. There's no law against naming a CG125
    "Bobbin".

    Hmmm. Point taken.

However I've spent some time this evening googling on first bike
recommendations and newbie bikes etc. and came across several ancient
postings including a couple from a Gower going by the name of Alan.

Overall feeling seemed to be that if said newbie was aiming to go on
to bigger (I won't say better - WTF is a holy pushrod anyway?) things
a 125 was not worth getting: go for DAS, then buy a fazer or bindit.

I'd appreciate the thoughts of the foak on this.

Not something I have any truck with. Your SO sounds the sort who'd prefer a
    smaller, lighter bike anyway.

    ****, I missed that post.

OHCs rule (for now [1]), CG125s are shit and pushrods are the inertially
bound spawn of the god of slow progress.

[1]Though I'm still waiting for the electric bike with max torque
available from any revs and a suitably robust solution to
energy supply/recharging, to be developed. Sod all these 'wheeze', bang,
blow, suck antiques. We demand a modern method of locomotion for modern
    times.
