Anyone got the horn? Paging the trumpetisti

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Toby Augh-Nottoby, Jan 4, 2005.

  1. My son [aged 9] has just been given a trumpet by a local woman whose
husband - a talented amateur - croaked recently. Most of his instruments -
trumpets, flugelhorns and trombones - were parcelled out to friends, but
she's found another. When we visited a few months ago, she was showing off
the collection and the lad picked up a trumpet for the first time ever and
blew a clear note with his first puff. Hmmmm. She wants him to have the
thing, but we really have to give [or, at the very least, offer] her
    something for it.

So, on the basis that ukrm is indeed the FOAK, can anyone advise what a fair
figure would be? It's a Yamaha, but I can't find any model number other
than YTR2320 on the middle valve. It probably needs a service, but I've
freed up the sticking valves with a little trumpet oil. It's in a hard
case, with one mouthpiece but no mutes or anything else. Some of the
plating is worn and/or scratched. Ebay currently has just one Yamaha
trumpet up, a T100S, with no bids against a starting price of 50 quid. Any
    ideas, anyone?

Googling on YTR2320+trumpet gives new prices of around ukp100-150
(dollar equivalent in the US) and similar prices in euros on the
Continent. There seems to be something called the Silver Flair which is
pricier (I imagine that's silver plated).

On that basis, maybe half the new price? 50 quid unless it's the silver
    jobbie.

  3. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Toby Augh-Nottoby"
That's the bit that made me boogie.

    Not just me, then!

I was wondering wtf trumpet oil is. Fully synthetic? Causes valve slip
on ShiteoldTrumpets? Found cheapest at Halfords?

More to the point, is it YPVS (Yamaha Purcell Voluntary Sound)?

She must have a serious dislike for you. However, if she really hated you
she would have given him a drum kit.

  7. Heh. His 10.5 year-old brother plays drums. The trumpet will be light
    relief.
