Anyone got a phone going cheap? Oh, and a car?

No doubt. People forget as the time window is usually just 1 month. People
don't send in the correct document(s). They have a full rebuttal service.

Simply follow the instructions and invest 98p in recorded delivery. 6 weeks
later a cheque for £84 drops through your letterbox.

Raises the question, 'when is a phone not a phone'? It seems to do
everything, but I'll bet it's not cheap. Neither, I suspect, does it
    make toast.

I've had a 3330 and a 3230 and they were both pretty good. Robert's got
the 3230 now; the 3330 came a cropper when I dropped it and the screen
broke. The phone was still working, but I couldn't tell whether it was
switched on or off; neither could I make calls because I couldn't see
what was on the screen. I replaced it with this:

    http://tinyurl.com/324s9o

    (resolves to
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5472963/Trail/C$cip%

    3D41992.T-mobile+Mobile+phones.htm)

I think I paid about £40 for it in the local Orange shop, which isn't
too bad considering the cost of a lot of today's phones.

Laura's old Toshiba TS10[1] is now surplus to requirements. Not a
leading-edge all-time classic, but it's kinda quirky, pleasant to use and
free. I think it's locked to Vodafone, and the glass over the camera lens
is cracked (although this doesn't show up on photographs).

Many horriblemarkets now sell incredibly cheap phones, but I don't know
    whether they have cameras.

Virgin are top for PAYG. You can PAYG by direct debit. No need for top
ups or credit that expires before you use it. You just make the call and
get a bill at the end of the month that is automagicall paid by DD. My
bills are usually in the region of 53p in a particularly heavy use month.
You can get a SIM card on its own for about a tenner with £5 credit on it
to start with. They may also do some suitable phones for not very much.
Also, if you have a Virgin phone and shop in their stores, you get £1 in
top up vouchers for each £10 spent, if you show them the Virgin phone
(turned on to show the logo on screen).

Got one of those - good looks, but doesn't work very well.
Got similar, again, the only stuff it shows is piccies I never took.
    Hmm, I don't think she'd fit.
Ah, yes, know it well. Doesn't really help.

Ah, now see, there's a problem. I'm not disciplined at all when it
comes to money - having read further down the thread, I'm sure I'd
miss the dates. I'm the one who missed out on the Tesco Clubcard
    offers by missing dates.

Maybe - is it a PAYG? (I know nuffink about phones.)
Not too sure - even if it is unlocked, is it PAYG? Is it reliable? You
don't know, hmm, probably not that one.
Not too far then. Also thinking about Platy's Laura's one...

H heavy month by your standards must be around 5 calls if your bill is
    53p.

There's no difference. Stick a PAYG sim in it and it's PAYG. Stick a sim
in that's on a contract and it'll be on a contract.

See above re: PAYG. I've had a Virgin Mobile sim in it and it seemed to
make calls just fine and the camera worked. Couldn't pick up voicemail,
but I think that was just a settings thing - bung in the right settings
from Vodafone and you should be laughing. Either way, it's free and...

Should also note, the only thing you need to make it PAYG is a sim that
    you can order gratis from
