Icelandair, 'cause it was much cheaper, and it takes about the same
time as not. Is there some reason I _shouldn't_ go to Iceland? (Other
    than volcanic ash, of course.)

  3. Well, no, and I'd love to visit the country, but even without the ash, I
wonder if the saving is worth the hassle.

It's still an achievement to be one of the few people to choose Iceland
as a waypoint and time it perfectly with a volcanic eruption :))

The ash cloud generally isn't getting much above FL200 (20,000 feet), so
as long as you can get off the ground and up to cruising altitude,
the area where the ash is can be overflown.

Graphics here, divided to surface-FL200, FL200-FL350 (where most
airlines fly), and FL350-FL550 (where Concorde would have flown).

I wouldn't bank on it being that simple. I read an article earlier
that stated that current CAA regulations won't even allow take-offs and
landings, even if the ash cloud is at FL350 as you cannot underfly.

I didn't see any mention of overyflying though.
