And the best bit is that they will have bought those houses
specifically because they'll have been advertised as having "superb
    transport links".

You know that, I know that - does Mr "non Biker" resident know that?
Why am I an idiot for not agreeing with you? You CHOSE to go to the Bol.
That choice doesn't exist to the residents in the area - whilst I agree that
on a one off I expect no one will mind - but that doesn't mean they
shouldn't be considered in the planning. Why do you not seem to have any
respect or concern for those who may be affected by your sport? Serious
    question.
Very good, but I fail to see the relevance to whether or not an area that
does not NORMALLY (ie regularly) have such events, should just 'accept' an
open pipe policy. Change motorbikes to music/railways/OAP choirs whatever it
is that might wind you up.

I live near a railway line - I accept the noise it makes, but I know that at
night, especially when it's cold, it's very loud indeed at times. There is
no choice with trains - they are loud. Bikes on the other hand do not need
    to be that loud.

Lets put it another way - IMO every decibel over a point that it goes, is
one step nearer to this race not being repeated.

You have to give and take. If it was a quiet event, no one who's likely to
complain would know about it. If it's loud just for the sake of it - they
    will complain.

Why can I see that, yet you see this as me being stupid?

This is an argument that needs careful use, just because it's always been
doesn't necessarily mean it should continue.

"vitually every chimney in this country has been hosting small children
    for decades".

Sadly, a very valid point. Lots of such busy little opinionated folk
would love to see motorsports banned completely.

Not really comparable arguments, except at the most simplistic level.
(Also Dodger's fox hunting example) - in the case of kids up chimneys,
and fox hunting, one can argue that someone/something is suffering,
where that someone/something has no ability to change the situation in
    which they find themselves.

In the case of "being disturbed by noise from a motor racing circuit"
one can argue "you shouldn't have bloody moved there, then".

I think you misunderstand where I'm coming from on this.
I'm not saying ban loud exhausts, I'm not saying people who move next to
    motor circuits shuldn't expect noise.

What I'm saying is that for NIGHT RACES, some (more) consideration needs to
be given because the potential disturbance is greater.

I may well move to an area with a race circuit, and absolutely love the
sound of the bikes. But I'm not sure I'd love the sound of the bikes at 2am
when I'm trying to get some sleep.

And that's where I'm coming from on this - this is the first 24 hour race in
ages. It would be a right bloody shame if it were canned on a noise basis
simply because none of the racers would accept the possibility of running
    quieter bikes.

I know I'm accused of being thick sometimes, but can you not see there is a
difference between me saying "BAN ALL LOUD BIKES" (which I'm not) and this?

Fair enough, you pick your stance and start negotiating from half way.
If it is all the same to you, we'll start from our end of the argument
and see where we end up.
