Guy drives up to check point, 5 meters away he suddenly realises he
left his 2 month old baby on a blanket in the blazing sun at home,
turns around and drives off as fast as humanly possible and gets
    shot in the back?

I wouldn't really know where to put that figure and pulled it out of
thin air as with any good statistic, but the issue of elements of the
troups acting beyond their call of duty is certainly true. However, the
same does apply to the current situation in Iraq/Afghanistan, where you
will find a fair proportion of the forces acting beyond their call of duty,
as observed at Abu Ghraib [1] or related to me by a friend [2] serving
in Afghanistan with the US troups, where they chased a man on a motorcycle
with a couple of armoured hummvees because he did an odd turn on the plain.
Turned out he was trying to avoid a puddle.

[1] Not particularly relevant to the check point debate, but related.
[2] Careful! Word of mouth story

  3. If you watched the goat staring program on the TV including bits on
psychological warfare I think you will find the US troop were following
the book. Who will admit to the book will come out later at the trials.

Jeez, it's not like it's hard. If Weggy can do it, I reckon The
Doctor's chickens would make a pretty good fish of it.

  5. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember TOG@toil,
    That's carp, that is.
