Anyone care to guess what price this will fetch?

    Ebay item 260428678776

Only halfway into the auction, and I'm gobsmacked. I've been asked for
genuine 400 Four horns before, and so expected it to make a few quid
(hence the 99p start), but now I'm thinking it might go as high as
    £40....

Dave Silver no longer lists them new, and cmsnl also lists them now as
unavailable (but still has the old price listed of 64 euros).

    Prace bets!

  2. **** me. it astounds me that anyone would be that far up their [NO CARRIER]
that they care what pattern of horn is on the thing.

I will grant you that it's an unusual design, more commonly cheapjap horns
have round holes to let the noise out.

I bet it sounds like a constipated duck, too.

People who want it "just right" do. And God bless them, say I.

It's OK, actually. I mean, not in the BMW "slow train coming" style
nor in the "scooter bat-squeak" style. Just a nice parp.

Yebut: a sufficiently constipated duck, by definition, couldn't make any
    sound at all.

    Are you saying it's broken?

TOG really ought to have linked to a .wav file of it working, just so
bidders could hear how evidently superior it is. Something with a small
Hondaperson going, "S**t, that's loud!" immediately afterwards in the
background (in Japanese, naturally), so as to confirm its authenticity.

    It's all about marketing really...

    S. (looking gloomily at the rain outside - go carefuly, it'll be greasy)

Thus spake TOG@Toil () unto the assembled multitudes:
Dissatisfied with the standard horn on a Puch Maxi I had in the early
1980s, I fitted some Moss twin gas-horns, and f*ck me, did they frighten
    people.

Ditto, CB175 (inside a Rickman fairing). Frightened me more tho, as most
of the sound probably came straight up.

Thus spake SpamTrapSeeSig () unto the assembled multitudes:
My Maxi was unfaired, but I doubt that would have made any difference to
its top speed :) The horns were mounted to either side of the headlamp.
it looked the biz! Of course, the gas bottle with its trigger, mounted on
the handlebar, was a magnet to passing street urchins, so the neighbours
got a blast every now and then. Happy days. I probably also contributed to
the depletion of the ozone layer, as the gas was CFC-based. But at least
the f*cking ozone layer knew I was coming ;-)
