Exactly. Even I managed to catch and pass an R1, what looked like a
Fazer and a couple of other bikes.

Given that I'm hardly the fastest rider in the world, and was 2-up on a
    lardy sports-tourer, that's disgraceful.

Y'know, I read your post and the link and my heart sank...

Even knowing it was no-one from yesterday's "official" run doesn't make me
feel a whole lot better; it's a decent stretch of road, that I've enjoyed
riding countless times (that /one/ particular time excepted), but I'd
imagine the authorities will be at the least keeping a close eye on it
from here on in, and, at worst, slapping the perfunctory 30 and 40mph
    limits all over it.
    :-(

    Bad shit.

Slow and in places exceedingly dangerous.

*sigh* without wanting to sounds sanctiminious but I was astounded by the
riding I saw going to and from the FOT and twice it was only because of
observant car drivers that I wasn't a witness for potentially nasty
    accidents.

I think this was an RSV run out, I follow the RSV.net board and have just
    read that
one of the members was killed and three injured in one of there run outs,
    uncanny really
as I was going to attend, decided to take the Fazer instead and trot about
    on my own.

Last weeks warm lemonade and lime and a pack of crisps was £2.90. It's
    cheaper in Brighton FFS!

To be fair though - if some twat overtakes you and then hits something
coming head on ... where do you go as there's still the matter of car +
newly attached bike coming your way.

considering how closely we all tend to ride when 'making progress' on a FOT
I can see how one mistake could turn into a large accident quite quickly.

I think in big group rides like this, adrenalin takes over, seen it happen
    oh so many times,
an overdose of adrenalin and 170 mph bike = a lethal fucking weapon, I
have followed guys round bends who have drifted to the other side of the
road, that then puts me in danger, I'm a bit more choosey who I ride with
    nowdays

From the Thames Valley Plod site - Not a head on after all but instead
    running wide:

    Fatal collision - Aylesbury Vale

A six vehicle fatal road traffic collision occurred on the A413 at the
entrance to Maynes Farm, St Hoggeston, earlier today (Sunday).

The collision involved one car - an Audi A4 - and five motorcycles.

The Audi and one motorcycle were travelling towards Buckingham. The other
four motorcycles were travelling towards Aylesbury.

As the four bikes heading towards Aylesbury exited the last left hand bend
of an S bend it is believed that the first bike crossed over the centre
white lines and was involved in a head on collision with the Audi.

The other three motorcycles then also lost control on the bend and the
riders came off their machines. One of them hitting the other motorcycle
    which was travelling towards Buckingham.

The rider of the first motorcycle die at the scene, the other three
motorcyclists were taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital where all three were
    detained.

The car driver and the fourth motorcyclist were uninjured.

The deceased has not yet been identified but is believed to be from the
    Luton area.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and
contact the officer in the case, PC Alison Brown, on 01296 396015.

Trying to work out exactly where this is.

Is it where there's the 'nearside passing lane' in the road - because
that's somewhere there's a temptation to pull a silly overtake, IMHO.

No - if you read the article it sounds like they were heading towards
    Aylesbury.

    It's here :
    http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.s...00&st=4&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

which I think is around where the off camber (whatever!) set of bends with
    the bridge is.

As Andy said, a fine line and all that - we could have had something similar
with Badger on the 4012 :)

Hmmm, still trying to place it in the real world. Just can't get it in
    my head.
    Bear's leap?
Oh, I must have missed that - was playing catchup on there, as I got
held up by the Audi A4 Cabrio that got inbetween me and you.

I thought Bear's leap was on the 4011?
Dunno - I was just impressed how much better a one up GSX-R6 accelerates
then a two up Viffer :-D
