Oh, excuse me, I appear to have dropped a coin, it's down there
    somewhere...

Never mind, it's only a penny.

  3. There's a challenge.

Who reckons they can blag their way in, then?

    Rope fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
.... and you'd be noticed in Birmingham?

I'm not doing that kind of thing ever again.. not since I nearly got
myself arrested partaking of free beer in the club lounge of the airline
my American colleagues were flying with, in Delhi.

    Serious chaps, those indians.

Whaaaat? You bung the right bloke a few pounds / dollars and it all just
    goes away.

I spent a happy few hours in the lounge at Mumbai once, listening to the
people who *should* have been in it being turned away because "Very
    sorry, lounge full!".

That would have worked assuming A) I hadn't used the last of my indian
groats, and B) the bloke in question wasn't on his first day in the job.

In hindsight the execution could have been better.
I survived to tell the tale.. from now on I only blag my way into
    European lounges.

I went to this the year before last and TBH was quite disappointed.

The bikes were a bit dull; only the Guzzi concept Griso thing, Triumph
Rocket had any excitement or queues to look at; the trade stuff seemed
expensive tat; main stage events boring and I felt sorry for the girls as
hordes of middle aged men leched at them. The Lampkin's motocross
    display was good.

However, getting pissed in the bar with Cane, Blaney (and respective
Fathers), Hog, Spete, Wik and Suze was most enjoyable. It'd have been
just as much fun in a boozer in Birmingham without all the bike crap.

Now it would be good value except for one thing. Rather than lots of
stands selling really nice stuff at a genuine discount price there are
lots and lots of stands selling exactly the same shite helmets,
disklocks, shite leathers, security chains, shite tankpads etc etc and
all at something close to normal prices. IMHO the only reason to
attend is if you want to see the new bikes and the girls.

The really nice stuff, like the Harris stand, is all pretty much book
    price.

I can think of four purchases made over the years at NEC. Bear's Uvex
helmet, his Scorpion R1 can, my old Arai RX7 and my current Dainese
leather jacket. Each of mine had a decent discount, none of those
discounts were large enough to offset the cost of attendance.

If there are a few people going on some particular day I might attend
with the aforementioned Irene. Being new to bikes and to the show she
will be appropriately dazzled, I can offset the crushing boredom by
    imagining her overwhelming gratitude.
