It's my company. I started it because an owner of the business
(account #1) which started me out called me and wanted a BUNCH of help
with his network in his company. I explained that I wasn't used to
dealing with small scale networks and he met me in a Taco Bell while I
had work done on my car across the street. He explained that the
person doing the network before mess it all up and the network had
real problems. I told him I'd stop by and take a look at it. At the
time, I was applying with large telcos and stopped in and took a look.
Not one single person could log into their own workstation, let alone
do anything network related. I started getting the workstations
"right" and they complained they couldn't print. I looked over and
found the goof did a workstation as a "print server" and was using
print sharing to print to it. I shook my head, walked out without
saying a word and drove to the supply house and bought a printserver.
Went back and plugged it up and "poof" no more problem there. Anyway,
I asked what happened to the original guy and the office manager told
me he worked there for over a month (8am - 5pm / Mon. - Fri.) and
    that's what he left. Hmm...

Well, the company started because the week ended by me giving them an
invoice. The invoice had a logo on it and the owner thought it was my
company. When I got the check, I didn't have the heart to ask for
another check be written to correct the problem and I just went down
and got a DBA and opened an account.

Was that like WAY more info than you wanted?

Oh, and the price? I get steady work from him, so I adjust the amount
accordingly to what I do for the week. I charge him $40/hr, but if I
work 5 days plus a day or two on the weekend, I just charge several
hours and that way I'm not taxing him to death and it's a little
steadier than if I charged a big amount to make a bunch of money. I
came to this because I saw several others trying to work for him and
taxing him too much...they made a bunch of money, but not steady. On a
single one-time project of just a couple hours...I'll charge full
    rate.

The only thing that I would bump my price WAY up on (and it started
out with this one company I started with) is working with firewalls.
I'll charge $120/hr to whoever wants to pay me to work on the
firewall...in hopes they'll turn me down. I have seen one engineer who
quoted $240/hr and the company almost took him up on it. The closest I
had to making the money was when El Fenix was having problems and
needed help with their firewall. I quoted $120/hr and minimum rate
day. They Sr. Engineer thought about it and asked if I could help for
less. I told him what the problem was and where he could find it. I
told him I could tell him for free on the phone or he could pay me to
jack with it until it works. He asked where it was at and then about a
week later, he found it where I told him it was at. The problem with
firewalls though, all of them are different. They do the same
function, but finding where a problem is and what verbage is used to
    find it is a bear.

Maybe you and I should talk on the side sometime. We might be able to
figure out a way to mutually benefit each other.
