Any easy dirt riding in the south bay suitable for pillion ?

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Rob Kleinschmidt, May 9, 2014.

  1. Looking to find some very easy dirt roads or trails in
the south bay suitable for giving a pillion rider a
little bit of dirt experience. Any thoughts on gentle
dirt roads etc. ? Any long easy trails at Metcalfe or
Hollister ? Any county roads like Skyline come to mind ?

    Thanks

Dirt, or just "dirty"? If dirty, Tunitas Creek maybe,
depending on your requirements. Haven't traversed it in
several years, but it was a beautiful ride. Slow, quiet,
    rather rough but still serene.

  3. Tunitas/Lobitos is one of my favorites, but I was looking
more for genuwine dirt roads, which are a little hard to
    find on the peninsula.

Indeed, I don't think there are any, at least not
    public. Reif/Rayhouse road from Knoxville-Beryessa
to highway 16 is said to be unoficially open, but
would be a very long "get-to" ride from the Peninsula.

Haven't looked at it since 2005, the Rayhouse side
was quite rough then but very beautiful, if stark.

Hope somebody comes up with better ideas,

  5. Hollister had several. They may still have. I live in Calaveras County now and as long as you have a current plate and a USFS approved Sparky Arrester Thingy you can cruise several hundred miles of Forest Service Roads up here.
