Any crash you can hobble away from is a good one

    But it still fucking hurts.

The plan for this weekend was to head to Cornwall for a couple of
days. A mostly scenic route had been plotted - M5 to Taunton, A358 to
Bishops Lydeard, B3224 to Simonsbath, B3358 to Challacombe, then onto
the A39 for the rest of the trip. All was going to plan until I fucked
up a left hander on the B3224 - I'm not 100% sure whether I hit
gravel, a white line or an apple core, but the front went away. Bike
slid down the road, hit an earthen bank and bounced back onto the
road. The driver an passenger of a Land Rover helped drag the bike to
the side of the road and a call to Auntie Carole was made to get the
now slightly foxed 9R and rider back home - they promised a truck
would be with me within 60 minutes, which this time was the case.

Bike was dragged onto flat bed truck and secured. The reverse of my
journey resulted in me getting home, albeit with increasing levels of
discomfort to my left knee and right hand/wrist.

Once the bike had been dragged into the garage, I called Platy with
the intention of explaining that retrieval of his new Wing could be a
bit challenging, as I might not be able to drive the van I'd borrowed
from work and that I was about to get myself to the local A&E to get
looked at. Platy offered to drive me there, the offer was gratefully
accepted. We arrived at Frenchay A&E at around 7:15 p.m. and checked
out at around 1:00 a.m. having been told that my knee is OK, but I've
broken my right thumb - my right hand is now in plaster and I'll find
out on Monday what else is likely to happen to it. Cheers for being
    the driver and pisstaker-in-chief.

Photos, with the caveat that I am a graduate of the Paul Carmichael
school of photography. The images are around 700k each, but I CBA to
    resize them.

So, that's Chimay next weekend written off and does anyone want a
    track day place?

Don't know you but glad you are basically OK. Your photos however made me
stop and think about the gear I ride in and if I would walk away from an
accident, and I have to conclude probably not. I feel a trip to the shop
coming on for some better quality gear before heading off to Scotland in a
    couple of weeks.

And I guess I should have used straw instead of grass?
    Yes and ta.

  6. Well that looked worse than the result you posted.
    GWS

Fortunately my riding style of mainly bolt upright should protect me from
the worst type of things that happen on a bike and my leather stuff will do
    the rest.

    Ditch surfing is not recommended

You should always use cut grass, similar to the Timothy sort that one
gives to guinea pigs otherwise it can cause a whole host of problems.

    I'll bet it does.

Glad you're Ok and if it's any consolation, I've just shown the wife your
pis and she's more convinced than ever that riding without the leathers and
stuff is a "not good" idea. It made me think too, as I've been riding in
cargo pants and trainers the last few weeks.

    That stops today.

No, "falling off at speed" is the not good bit, not "riding".
Why? You don't have to be a clumsy ****, just because Chris was.

It's not like a big game of tag or similar.

The latter. As it's the right thumb that's broken, throttle and brake
    usage could be challenging.
