Need to fly to NY next month, so I'd like to know when the volcano is
going to erupt again, cos I'd still much rather fly BA via LHR if the
    skies will be clear.

Any good resources dealing with this?

Bearing on mind that the strike dice are in the process of being rolled
again at the moment, it seems to me that another company would be a
    better bet right now, regardless.

    Isn't it constantly erupting?

I'm booked with BA from LHR -> Newark, NY in August. Of course I
booked *just* before the volcano and strikes erupted.

Southern airports seem to be affected less than northern airports and
in the South-Westerly winds will tend to push the plume away from UK
airspace. Also BA try to keep the transatlantic flights going if at
all possible, so any flight crew disruptions *should* affect short
    haul flights first.

    That's what I'm telling myself.

There's no such thing as an accurate resource when it comes to
predicting wind direction, especially not a few weeks in advance.

Yes, it's quite clear that to stand the best chance of getting back on
time will be had by booking Swiss from Zurich, much as I hate[1] to do
so. I'm looking for some sort of justification for going via London
    anyway.

I'm already having to leave NY a day earlier than would be ideal, on
the Wednesday night, as I'm flying out to Istanbul on the Friday, and
although in theory the flights could work together, I _really_ don't
fancy spending a day and a half on four successive flights in one go.
A day between won't be ideal either, but at least it gives a little
more security in case of delays.

[1] For two reasons: I then have to drive into Basel, park, get a tram
to the train and then spend 1.5 hours getting there - overall time
being at least as much as my normal 15 minute drive to the airport
allowing an hour check-in, then transferring at LHR; secondly, seats,
lounge, in-flight food and entertainment are all sub-par

I can give you that: you posting bile from the airport lounge in Shannon
whilst Jude goes off on holiday to Turkey will be highly amusing.

_Would_ be, I'm sure. But now you mention that idea I'm _definitely_
    booking the Zurich flight. Tomorrow.

Monday was a disaster though - several colleagues had to work from
You know, I think I actually disliked Miami more than NJ, so I'd hate
    to get stuck there.

Not actually made plans for any conferences this year - not even sure
    where they're all being held.

I actually agree. but I'm going to Orlando and staying in the seaworld
resort hotel. I had been planning on sitting by the pool all weekend
but it looks like thunderstorms so maybe I'll take the Clinical
    Standards Toolkit class instead.
most of them are over already. you want to go to PhUSE in Berlin in
    October.

while I'm here, any chance of a TC with someone here with your
thoughts about the project you worked on and the software beginning
with W? its one of the things we're looking at and I'd prefer the
    Oracle solution.

Tough life, ain't it. There's a fab rollercoaster in Seaworld, called
    Kraken. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken_(roller_coaster)

Oooh. Just (like yesterday, finally installed) got a copy of CDI to
play with, and I think CST comes bundled with it. I shall be having
fun over the next few weeks.
Not really, if I'm honest. But yeah, I expect I'll end up there.
Sure. But you know that W were bought by PF, who've now been bought be
Oracle, who I consider are not altogether likely to try and push the
software forward (and lord knows it needs some work) as they'd see it
in direct competition to their own LSH product...

But yeah, if someone wants to email me I'm happy to talk about it.

Yep. One of the best. ISTR that's the one with part of it modelled on
