My CBR's battery was well and truly flat after I came back from
holiday. I had it on charge on a variable regulated power supply, but
it does not seem to want to charge up to 14.4 volts ( measured the
current at 600mA after prolonged charging ) Is it time for a new
battery ? My understanding is that the current should drop below 100mA
at 14.4 v , then you can switch the charge to a 12.5v float level.
What voltage / current is the bike meant to charge it at ?

Charge/float voltage depends on the battery chemistry and temperature,
    for a start. Go here:

  3. How long a holiday? Key question this one is.

If it was anything less than a month and you don't have an alarm then
the battery could easily be at the start of being on the way to utterly
    fucked.

You should be to continue to use it until you park your bike on a friday
and get so pissed over the weekend that you don't ride and then when you
next try to use it on monday it won't start. I would be very interested
to see how long it continues to last what with winter coming and
    everything.

There is an excellent battery ffaq out there on the interweb and for my
sins I have yet to complete an evaluation of it for ukrm but the last
time I looked it seemed to cover most of it. A bit car centric though.
I think I recall someone mentioning there may be a link it from the ukrm
ffaq. Details of which can be found in sigs and subject lines all over
    google.
