    Hey--

I have a '67 bike and found an old '67 TX plate to hang on it, but it
has been glassbeaded to shiny metal. I want to repaint (using One
Stroke paint for opacity) but ain't sure of the color scheme. White
w/black text-? Black, white text-? Couldn't find this on the TX DOT site.

Also, what are the pros and cons of riding with "antique" plates (I mean
the "official" ones, not a vintage plate)-? I realize the plates are
restricted but I wonder how strongly this is enforced. I like the price.

    Thanks,

An eBay search turned up some '67 TX car plates and they're white w/
black text, so I assume the bike version is the same.

  3. the alternative is to apply for the CLASSIC plate as opposed to the
Antique. the main difference is that Classic is "approved" for normal
street usage, and does require state inspection, whereas the Antique is
(supposedly) usage restricted and does not require the state inspection.

Using the '67 plate is approved for Antique classification if you tell
them you want to use it and file the plate number. You will be issued a
stamp for the tag, iirc I'm not certain it can be used for a Classic
registration; it may or may not be approved. The original question
being usage of the '67 plate, here's the short of it, imo:

Get the Antique registration, fix up the '67 plate and put it on, file
it on record so you get the tax stamp, ride it and don't worry about a
    thing.

I don't know of anyone who has gotten a citation for driving/riding an
antique tagged vehicle. I have two such vehicles myself ('73 bmw bike/
'30 model A) and know lots of other antique/classic owners who have had
no problems with their Antique registration and riding/driving their
    vehicle.
