Antilock brakes - Pan

Ok - nice wet road. Plucked up the courage to stamp on the brake pedal in
an attempt to lock the back wheel to see what the anti-lock feels like. The
tyres gripped, the bike stopped. Much more bite than I expected. I tried
    again with both brakes. Brilliant.

But I expected to feel a judder as the antilock kicked in. Nothing. It
just gripped as thought the road was dry.

So is this normal on a Pan ? The car's antilocks put a very rapid, ratchet
like pulse through the brake pedal, and I expected to feel something similar
through the bike's pedal or lever.

Might be a stupid question - but are you _sure_ the ABS kicked in? -
does the light light up on the dash when it does or anything?

    No - I'm not sure - I didn't notice the light, but then I wasn't looking.
But my other non-ABS Pan used to lock up at the back on dry roads with much
less braking force than I was applying here. I was expecting to feel
something - (other than the tarmac). The question is - should I feel it ?

But you're right - I'll try again tomorrow and keep an eye on the light.

My non abs ST1100 used to lock up at the back very easily. The abs ST1100
and ST1300 both have linked brakes and are very difficult to get the abs to
kick in as the linked brakes make them stop a lot easier. The only time the
abs has kicked in was on ice and there is no pulsing through the levers just
a rhythmic pulsing from the brakes.

Thanks for that. It sounds as though Ive not managed to activate ABS at
all, which is quite amazing - I was getting more confident today and was
hitting wet white road markings with full braking force. Still no ABS -
even with both brakes fully applied. I'm most impressed. I did manage to
get the back to lock on our unmade gravelly road - but only in the last
moments of slowing down - when ABS doesn't work anyway.

I wondered what people were on about with the non ABS model - saying the
brakes were poor. I can see why now.
