He has had his best qualifying result this weekend since coming back to the
Australian Superbike Championships. He's qualified 6th and first non-factory
rider at Round 4 in Mallala, South Australia this weekend. He's on a
    CBR1000R. Results here:

Some of the people in front of him have raced internationally. Adam
Fergusson and Jamie Stauffer have raced in the AMA series. Josh Brookes won
the WSS race at Phillip Island in 2004 before getting seriously injured.

I'm not sure how 2005 Anthony Gobert compares with earlier versions, but the
Aust Superbike series is at a very high standard at the moment, so he must
be riding ok. Gobert's stated he wants to use this year as a stepping stone
    to get back overseas.

No need to feel like that - talent is only one part of the equation.
To get to the top you need a whole lot more than that, and Gobert just
didn't have the whole package. In that way he's as flawed as any of
    the rest of us.

Of course, you could argue that the guys who *do* get to the top are
equally flawed - people with the focus, competitiveness and
committment to win world championships are often not well rounded
individuals - nobody ever accused Kennry Roberts, Eddie Lawson or Mick
    Doohan of being nice guys.
