    Not a 10R, I know but...

I was always amazed at the longevity of Champ's trusty old Team UKRM
warhorse. Let's face it, we collectively threw it down the track so
many times. Yet even so (often in time to re-enter the race) it was
patched back up and soldiered on. How the frame or something
structurally serious never let go, I'll never know.

    Mighty impressive.

Once upon a time I helped my mate Ugg finally break his XJ650 courier
bike for spares, the engine had let go in a major way after over
200,000 miles of abuse and neglect. As it had been ridden through
countless winters we decided to cut the frame up around the engine,
rather than try undoing the engine bolts which appeared to be seized in
the mounts. As I hacksawed through the top rails I got the feeling
something wasn't quite right but carried on anyway - all of a sudden
there was an almight bang and the frame sprung apart; I hadn't even cut
all the way through by the time it let go. I jumped back and when I'd
recovered enough to take a look I found the frame tubes a good 4 inches
    apart.

Ugg told me that he'd front-ended the bike about 6 times in its life,
and each time he'd just put straightened or used forks and yokes in but
never checked the frame for straightness. It was under such immense
pressure that it ripped the last 20% of the frame tube where I was
cutting. I discovered that the engine bolts weren't seized at all, the
frame was twisted so badly it was gripping them tight in the mounts and
    that's why I couldn't shift them with a 4lb lump hammer.

well I was sober (still am). tis his comment on "sure you've
*actually* got them on the bike" that amazed me.

where would tyres be? still in the shop? next to the bike in the
    garage?

or maybe he meant to check that they are RR's.

I'm sure he thinks I'm stupid. I took the bike, spoke to the tyre
fitter, agreed with what he recommended. watched him fit the tyres
(and talked about the different tread patterns between the standard
and RRs). paid for them. brought the bike home and parked it in the
garage with five bikes penning it in.

so where he thinks they may be I aint got a clue but hey we're talking
WC' here and more importantly I'm explaining my reasoning.

Do you think the confusion may have arisen from the use of the word
    "apparently" ?

That was put there because I hadn't been home for almost two weeks and
hadn't had a look to see what she'd had fitted for me. It's a bit
miserable out there at the moment but if it brightens up I'll drag the
bike out and scrub the tyres in.

Hah, I'm going out on mine in a few minutes - I might take the CBR into
town but it can get a bit frantic with absolutely no lights, mirrors or
indicators in the traffic, and there's no steering lock since I put the
    lock-stops in.

It raised a few eyebrows amongst the local bike club high-ups last
night when I went for a quick blatt, they're pretty much all coppers.
They nicknamed it the "Asbo-bike", because it's very anti-social and on
    a night time curfew.

I fully intend to but I'm still feeling fucking knackered from working
a load of night shifts and at the moment I'm chilling out watching the
    cricket.
I'm pretty sure I'll be out on it before Sunday.

The more the merrier. We managed a new high of zero last week - even I
    didn't bother in the end.
