No - just turn up and they'll MOT it for you.

If your current certificate runs out in a few weeks time, take it with
you and they'll date the new certificate to start when the old one
expires - ISTR you can do this up to a month in advance.

It's the same here - I've managed to find most V5s to sort out changes
of ownership (swapping cages with the missus) and addresses, but I'm
still 2 outstanding.

 

No. You don't need anything, except maybe the previous MoT certificate if
you want the new one post-dating slightly.

No. Just you and the bike and the old MOT cert if it is still valid.

Don't hang about. Ring DVLA and tell them the V5s have disappeared -
if you have a mail redirection then don't change any details, let them
send duplicates to the old address: this saves weeks. When you get
them through the wonders of the Roayl Snail redirection - then you can
change the details and knock 'em back to DVLA.

Duplicates are sent out within a couple of days, see - changed docs
take c. 3 weeks. When I couldn't find the Renault's V5 and needed it
to tax the shed, I rang DVLA on a Friday - nice new, new-format V5
through the letterbox on the following Tuesday. All this for free
(atm) and without filling any forms in or answering questions, even.

 

I think they charge 19 quid now for a replacement...

This means that just for fucking once, I was in there in time instead
of the usual putting things off and then getting needlessly stung. I
mentioned to Steve that he shouldn't hang about because I knew there
was a fee on the way, but hadn't realised that it had come in.

It does need MOTed with it's 3 years old, doesn't it?

I always get confused because I was always used to 5 year first MOTs
in Northern Ireland.

Yep. Just turn up, takes about 30-35 mins. I take my bikes to Woodford
Motorcycles but I'm sure you've got someone local to you who will do
bikes.

You will need the V5 and MOT when you come to renew the vehicle tax on
it so I suggest you sort out your filing system sooner rather than
later. The procedure really has been made much more complicated than it
used to be.

 

.... and expensive if you can't find it.
