It is definitely this time of year again.. The weather reports were "iffy"
and those weather map TV images coming from the west Texas area sure did
look imposing.. So.. I had decided to just leave that Geen Vulcan covered
    and in the patio..

Next thing I know.. a motorcycle came rumbling down the street and Brian
rides up.. Sheesh.. dude.. "don't you know that it is going to rain and hail
and all that bad stuff"? Aw .. let's go ride for a bit..

So .. we did..the original destination was Grapevine Lake, just for a little
sightseeing .. The wind was gusting and blowing pretty hard, which also was
a minus for making a pleasant little ride..

We had decided to grab a bite .. even before leaving my house, so while we
ran down Beltline, we were on the lookout for a neat little "catfish place"
and we stopped at Pappy's Catfish Restaurant..

The owner of the establishment is a crusty old character that has a weakness
for playing the horses.. hmmm.. I think the little family style restaurant
is just a cover.. We ordered up and passed pleasantries with the cute little
waitress .. hmmm.. maybe more cover for that owner, wha'cha' think ?
    <chuckle>

Anyway.. it was Derby Day and the horses were running in Kentucky.. The
owner of the place gathered up all his tout sheets, made a bee line for Lone
Star .. to get his bet down, before post time.. Goes without saying, we
weren't going anywhere till we watched the Run for the Roses.. right ?

They ran.. he lost and since we had already filled up on his excellent
    catfish dinner.. we left..

Being so late, already .. the skies began to look real ominous, so we
aborted the Grapeving Lake plan and decided to take a run through Stroker's
... just to see what was going on, of course..

There really wasn't many out there.. not like the usual weekend crowd, at
any rate.. We visited with Rick Fairless for a while and wished him
continued success with his TV custom building adventures..

A few of Rick's most recent creations that he built on television are on
display and are for sale.. Whether anyone likes, dislikes or is indifferent
to that type of motorcycle, one thing is for sure.. there is a lot of
imagination there.. and Rick Fairless is amongst the leaders in the
questionable art of building motorcycles.. He is an artist in every sense of
    the word..

After visiting and harrassing sales managers .. service managers .. techs
and sales folks.. we meandered through the hamburger joint and visited with
a few of the customers .. Not many were about, that I recognized .. but one
really big dude from Denton, started talking to us .. He'd ridden in from
"up north" and was getting ready to ride back home..

During our introductions, the guy mentioned that he'd met a fellow recently
who'd invited him to attend an ABATE chapter meeting in Denton.. Hey buddy..
you can well imagine where that conversation went from that point.. <grin>
Seems this guy has recently located from North Carolina..or somewhere out
there.. and he's interested in becoming affiliated with one or more
motorcycle advocacy groups.. Damn.. did I ever have a couple of
    recommendations for him.. you bet'cha..

Hopefully .. I gave him good contact information for the two TMRA II
chapters in the metroplex and also the ABATE chapter in Denton.. He assured
me that we'd be crossing paths at some of those chapter meetings, in the
future.. Good on ya' .. pard.. See you there..

Our new friend got on his way to the north.. Brian headed towards Mesquite,
to the east and I headed for Irving, to the west.. by the time we got on the
streets . the wind had picked up and was really gusting strong..

All in all.. it was a nice little "running around" kinda ride, and I really
enjoyed it.. I hope everyone spent their Saturday afternoon, enjoying it ..
    the way we did..

I had a poker run that day.

We started at the NT HD shop, rode out to Blue Mound, then up to Sanger,
Pilot Point and ended in Lewisville at the Thunderhorse Saloon. I pulled a
crap hand. The run was about 120 miles or so total. No rain, but the clouds
*did* look menacing. And it happened that the Mouse forgot to replace her
rain gear in the bags after last using them, so she was a bit concerned.
