Louie went for a ride, today.. Don't know where he went or when he left, but
he's gone.. It sure was a pretty day for it, but I didn't go with him..
Don't know when he'll be back.. cause he didn't check with me about it..
Maybe I'll go next time.. if the temperature is a little warmer..

Good ride report! Enjoyed every bit of it. It sure makes me wish Bjay
    was out there too.

Nah, Bjay is still looking at his globe trying to figure out if a
motorcycle can actually go beyond Bowie County and end up in some place
like St Louis, Nashville and so on...maybe he'll figure that out right
after he finds out how to convert a motorcycle from shaft drive to
    chain....

You might have forgotten, Brian, but Miller county is not in Bowie
county, therefore, for the record on here, I rode into Miller county
    Arkansas, twice this week.
The next time I'm up your way, I'd like to get some tips on changing a
smooth running crotchRocket's shaft to a chain??? You did do it
yourself, didnt you? I thought so. Hope your ''ride'' from St. Louis is
    without mishaps. goodDay.

Yup, did every bit of it myself. It wasn't that difficult to do it. All
you have to do is remove the drive from the rear end, replace the rear
wheel, replace the spline with sprockets, weld on new hangers and a
chain guard. Once you have that, then you just get a custom fitted
chain and adjust it to fit. Oh yeah, I had to remove the rear fender to
make room for the bigger rear tire.

The real trick was how to fit the bigger gas tank. As you might know,
the Shadow has the tank under the seat. I had to convert from that to a
tank over the frame and sits in front. When I changed to the low bars,
it made me sitting where I'm over the new tank...since the tank is
mounted on top of where the old one was. I just found the big tank I
wanted, went to the hardware store and bought some aluminum tie straps
and sheet metal screws to fit the new tank on the old one. That's when
I got the idea to move the pegs back so I can be more comfortable
    leaning into the forward position.

Then I looked back at the bike and thought it'd be better to have a
full fairing. I went back to the same place I found the tank and got a
full coverage fairing. I used the left over screws and just screwed the
    fairing on the frame.

This isn't to mention the changes to the engine making for WAY more
    horsepower.

Like I said, the motorcycle doesn't look anything like it used to. It's
amazing what someone will do with downtime during the cold weather,
huh? I got most of these ideas from watching American Chopper on the
    Discovery Channel.

I should be in your area this evening....maybe you can see this bike
    riding through....

I had enhancement items to check out on this ride. I bought a new GPS, but
I'm too smart to get lost, and didn't care where I was going....so I didn't
use it. New progressive springs in the front, couldn't tell any difference.
New seat cushion feels great. I didn't want to buy one of those $600 seats
just yet. For what it is, that Airhawk cushion is expensive also. I found an
air cushion at Sports Authority for $17 and went with that. Fits the Voyager
    seat pretty good.

I rode around to the back side of Alvarado Lake. Got some good curves around
there, but those wild meth producing punks around there drive like wild meth
producing/users and are somewhat of a hazard. One '78 Tempo is extremely
wide on the corners and even with the fenders dented inward it still leaves
    little clearance.
On down the rode I visited Itasca, Hillsboro, and Whitney. That road stuff
the Hiway boys put out for the ice we had a few days ago has turned to white
power which makes for slick spots. That dust also will settle around the
dash area right behind the windshield.

Maybe Friday another trip? Can u get out?

Well .. yeah.. Soon as it warms up a little bit.. Gotta run by Grapevine for
    a tail
    light assembly and that's it..

Since it has been too damned cold for old folks like me to be out and about,
just thought I'd go ahead and do a ride report for you and dedicate it to
    Bjay..
You know how those guys with Kitchen Pass problems are ? Leave it to you
to get out by yourself and have some sort of problem with a damned Tempo..
Sheesh.. getting to where I can't let you out in public anymore.. Regards

I came through Bowie County last night and I didn't see you at the
Shell station....maybe you were at the other one?

Anyway, I have to take that modified Shadow of mine to the shop today.
It seems during the ride one of those aluminum straps holding the
wheel steady came loose. That thing went to wobbling all over the
highway and I had to slow it way down. I might just have to do
something about this chain drive. I was talking with one guy at a gas
station and he said it might be the chain I'm using causing the
problem. I can't figure out what he'd be talking about...I told the
salesman at the local TrueValue I wanted the best chain link they had.

But you're right, those chains sure do make some racket back there.
And for some reason, that chain only hits in the teeth on the sproket
every once in a while. Even over those loud pipes I've got, I can
still hear that thing clattering away. It takes a whole can of WD40 to
get that thing to quiet down for a few miles.

You might need to check and make sure True Value didnt sell you a chain for
a chain saw. The brand of chain wasnt STIHL was it??

Nah, it wasn't for a chain saw...I'm not that dumb! It was the best
chain I could find off the spools. The good thing about it, if I break
the chain...I can use it to pull the motorcycle to another TrueValue
    to get it fixed!

Maybe I'll put some tow hooks on the front of this motorcycle? As soon
as I get it finished, I'm calling the Discovery Channel...

    Wanna go to Grapevine today?

If you'd asked some of us, on here bfore you did all that to the
motorBike, we'd told ja' that a chain requires maintenence.
I hope you stored the ''shaft'', after you took it off.
Ya' might wanna weld it back on, throw dogGone ole' cheap chain in an EZ
    Mart dumpster.
I imagine it's been a good while since you rode a motorBike with a dern
    chain.
Oh yeah, my Magna has a chain. hmmmmmmmmm! (chuckle)
