Another question - Air Jackets?

  1. Swat I meant Geoff,
When you get propelled forward by a sudden deceleration,
then get impaired in your movement by the head stem and handlebars,
there is a sudden deceleration point,
when the top half of the torso, keeps going,
but the bottom half, namely the legs,
are impeded by the aforesaid handlebars,
    thereby,
creating a downward movement of the top half of the body,
thus creating a tumbling motion, as mentioned by the aforesaid Theo

Assuming that this is a greater than once per thousand year event,
then it would be a disincentive :)
Well the bag is now predeployed for the inevitable smidsey at the next
    intersection. Good thing, no? :)
If ever you decide to do that please let me know so I can take the
movie - ought to be worth a pretty penny from some production studio
as stock footage for any number of block buster comedies. :)

    Sorry guys, pink or nothing.

You can probably get purple sequins though.

All the full face helmets match... except the graphics are My Little
    Pony.

You're not trying hard enough. Walking down the street, minding your
own business, and suddenly, *wham*, a bus-full of whales and a bowl of
    petunias hits you.

Still then, the airbag may help.

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it
is. If you don't, it's its. Then too, it's hers. It isn't her's. It
isn't our's either. It's ours, and likewise yours and theirs.

How many people have you personally witnessed trying to ride off with a
    disclock still locked?

I think I have seen four or five.

Well yes, the damn petunias, falling from 50,000 feet. I hate it when that
    happens.

I've heard of a few but not seen any. I've never forgotten to
disconnect the Autocom cable from the helmet although I can imagine
doing it. As for the airbag suit it seems it takes about 15 kg to
trigger the bag. That's a pretty hefty wallop, much more than the
Autocom needs and I can easily feel it when I move away without
disconnecting (at the bowser listening to the last bit of a news item
for example). Methinks worries about accidental activation might not
be well founded. There are other things (weight, inconvenience,
    airflow) that worry me though.

Accidents happen ;-) and I don't believe you are unable to imagine a
    fault.
A fault it one way the jacket could deploy while walking down the
    street.
How about a drunk dude having some fun.
    Collisioin with a pushbike?
Lanyard gets snagged on something passing or in a lift door.
And the airbag doesn't need to deply... What if the lanyard is simply
    cut/broken.

    Don't forget the cost.

Say someone has a habbit of breaking clutch levers and the like. ;-)
Imagine the extra burdon of having to pay for the jackets along the way.

So there is weight, and this was my number one reason against the
    product that I saw.
    Then there is cost.
    Then there is replacment cost.
Then there is the what if something goes wrong.

I was also slightly concerned about security issues with it, getting a
hard time trying to pass secure areas.

I would guess that most airbag deployments are during accidents and this
is a good thing. 10x greater would be a bad thing.
    A failure is a failure.

I bought a disk lock with my 96 Bandit (the 1st one), after I'd
(attempted) to ride off 3 times when it was still connected (the 3rd
time caused an unexpected dismount and $1200 worth of damage) I threw
the rotten thing in the bin.

I have since 'chosen' not to use the bastard things :)

I can think of several people who, if they got blown up as they walk
down the street, wouldn't be missed ;-)

Ok, so the comparison you're drawing here, is that if people forget to
attach their jacket to the bike their safety jacket is worthless, and
people forget to disconnect their disk locks before they ride off,
therefore disk locks do not stop your bike being stolen. Correct me if
I have misread what you wrote.
