Another NSL bites the dust.

  1. A418 Thame to Wheatley. Council types install in 50 mph signs this
    morning.

ISTR that councils don't have to spend so much on maintenance when they
    switch from NSL to 50mph.

How can anyone write 'install in' instead of 'installing'?
It can't be a spelling mistake.

Simple mistyping with slightly disengaged brain. We all do it.

it's got a mind of it's own when it comes to spell checking.

  5. There's loads going up in Oxfordshire at the moment, noticed a load of
roads locally that have sprung up new limits.

IMHO it's quite an easy thing to do.

It's not happening around here, but if it were, my MP would be getting
an email asking why the council are needlessly spending money on such
bullshit when they're meant to be tightening their belts.

And yet they all still seem fine at the thick end of triple the new
    limit.

    Allegedly.

No, but they're sticking fucking stealth tax vans in hedges just over
the brow of hills on the A419 in exactly the sort of place likely to
catch a golf doing a ~90mph overtake past a row of lorries and cars
early on a Wednesday morning... aledgedly.

Are they offering speed edumacation as an alternative to penalties
round your way, do you happen to know?

    Oh they've always done that.
Yes, but probably not for 90.

    90 in a 60?

86mph is the threshold for a court appearance. If you think they'll
offer a day of brainwashing you're mental.

    Shitbags.

It probably wouldn't have been so bad but I function quite poorly on 4
hours sleep and a stupid o clock alarm, so just wanted to get on site
    for a much needed coffee...

Same reason I may also have overlooked the change from 60 to 50 on the
M42 variable section... This is not my best day ever.
Poo. I'll have to hope it was less than 90 then, as all my attention
was spent looking at the road and I honestly don't know my exact
speed, I know I braked to below 80 once I worked out there was a van
on the verge, but where the needle started, I'm guessing 90 from
    engine sound alone.

It was only the other day I said I'd had 10 years with a clean licence
    too. *sigh*

In a 70, it was one of the dual carriageway bits, with a central
    reservation.
See above... higher threshold in a 70, yes?

Thresholds at which an FPN becomes a summons are:

    20 limit: 40
    30 limit: 56
    40 limit: 66
    50 limit: 76
    60 limit: 86
    70 limit: 96

(CBA to give a reference but it's from ACPO and magistrate guidelines
    which can be found online)

Phew, so at worst it's 6pts over 2x FPN's then, and I'm hoping the one
in the variable limit section may just be paranoia, as I'm sure those
gantry cameras must have a decent enough margin for error.

I feel a bit ashamed. Last time I got points I'd at least hit 120 and
been stopped by a plodvolvo on blues to earn my 3 point FPN.

You may be lucky(ish). I got nicked doing 110 down the M4 and was
offered 3 points and a 60 quid fine.

Indicated 90 will only be a real 82 or so though.

Chap that's sat opposite at work is wondering if he'll get a NIP, having
gone past a Truvelo camera at well over the limit, all crossed up with
smoke pouring from the rear tyres.

I suspect the fact that he's not got a reg plate on the front of his
Atom will have saved him from an appearance.
