Jackie had one before & loved it, so it was only a matter of time. I'm
quite looking forward to stealing it ;-)

Nice. Do you mind me asking what you paid?
Well /I/ didn't pay anything[1], but Jackie paid 2,800 I believe. It's
the blue one on biketrader - & yes, I know it's 3X, but the 650s are
very hard to find, & 3X seem to get most of the ones that do appear.
Besides, she bought it first then told me, so I didn't get a chance to
use the words 'cunts' & 'thieving' beforehand...
The SV was another option, but just lacked character. I'm rather
pleased with her choice - that makes three Italian bikes in the garage
:)

[1] I suspect I'll be paying with sweat come servicing time though.

For what sort of mileage? (CBA to hunt through biketrader, sorry)
7,500 - y2k model.
Good grief no - that'll be my job (hence the sweat). Although to be
fair, I did let them service the MV twice when it was still under
warranty. Both times I re-serviced it myself immediately after (as I
always do when a dealer touches my bikes), & they had done a fine job.
The only fault I could find was on one occassion they hadn't replaced
the aluminium tape that seals the edge of the air cleaner; everything
else was perfect.
Heh, ain't that the truth.
One of the yanks who flew over for our MV tour a couple of years back
hired a 1000 for the week, & loved it. His only complaint was slightly
soggy suspension, but that's a common criticism of the 650 too so
nothing you haven't already experienced.

I dunno - I reckon it takes *some* weight off the suspension, if not a huge
amount. If you're sat bolt upright in the saddle, then your body has no
'give', and the suspension has to lift you up and down along with the frame.
Hanging off, the direction of the suspension's travel isn't passing through
your ventre of gravity, so the bike can effectively bounce up and down
beside you a bit, not having to lift as much of your weight.
