Auntie Carole today informed me that she wants £405 to insure my B12 for
another year. FC, £300 excess, usual blether. Due to circumstances
beyond my control, I haven't got £405 at the moment. Also due to CBMC,
I'm not using the bike much ATM, although I'd like the option left open.
Would it really be that bad an idea if I dropped my cover to TPFT? Are
the CN "extras" worth the extra dosh over other insurers? I know that
any insurance only becomes worth it in the event of a claim, but I don't
know if I should take the gamble. For the record it's a 1-year old
bike, not entirely concours (it's a Bandit for crying out loud!) and
will, in all probability, remain with me for some time to come.

The breakdown cover is worth £60+ I've been v. happy with CN when I made
a claim - inc. their personal injury laweyrs.

DR emerged from their own little world to say
The breakdown cover would cost you about 70 [1] quid to buy as a standalone
    policy.

If you don't plan to ride in Europe then you can get it a lot cheaper

[1] this is what I pay for a similar policy for my car

  4. There are companies that do summer riding, winter TPFT/garage insurance to
    keep the NCB.

it all depends on wether you want to risk taking the I'm not going to
binit. I would say that the probality of binning it goes up in the winter
    due to the shit weather

    It's your call

  5. IME of having FC, which isn't much, I've never needed to claim; when I
did drop down to TPFT - Prang! That was just me though, in the early
years - busted front mudguard, smashed lights and scratched panels. More
recently, I've not had anything more than TPFT and even when I was TPO
as a courier I managed to get claims settled in my favour.

The CN extras that come with insurance are only worth the extra if you
will use them imho. Breakdown cover's a good start and will save you at
least £80 a year by not using AA/RAC etc. Legal I don't know because
I've used no win no fee type places before and they've always seen me
    right.

Just for your information - Bandits crash very well and even after being
completely fubar, they can be recovered and fixed; just ask Lozzo, what
he did with my old one was amazing[1] and last time I saw it I almost
had a tear in my eye[2]

[1] For want of a better word
[2] Probably due to some concrete dust flying out of Eaton's concrete
    mixer :)

Given it's age I'd still be inclined to go fully comp. The other
factor is if you did sling it badly, could you afford to repair it to
    more than 450 quid's worth?

Could you pay by installments to take the sting out of it a bit?

That's probably the road I'll be going down.
