From a west coast island far away.

Life here is... sedate. Quiet. Easy. Too easy.
Something horrible is about to happen. Any UKRMers planning
a trip sometime soon by any chance?

    Here's to absent UKRMers!
Still watching the trees grow on Vancouver Island then?
Out to your neck of the woods? Or in general?

  5. Wotcha Marc!
I was going to go to Oz after Easter, but depending on how things
go next week that may change.

It's not too bad. Another year as an undergrad then I'll be
moving on, assuming the family can agree where we go next.

Happy New Year to the Cannuck!

Not planning a trip over your way on '07, got too many trips planned
    already! Perhaps '08..

    How's the knee doing nowadays?

    I ain't absent! I'm just... away.
Pint of Fat Cat Porter for me please!
    (local brewery. Quite nice.)
Or blow down in the high winds, or get cut down and shipped
to the USA. But in general, yes. Also watching the marijuana
crops growing. Must be half a dozen in my area alone.
I don't know. I just got chills, that's all. Like maybe someone
was planning a UKRM hits Nanaimo (which, so long as the north
end is razed to the ground, might be a good thing).

    That's "pedantic canuck" to you, and it's only got 1 'n'. :)
At which point the family (me, partner, 2 cats, 1 dog) will
probably be ending our multi-year vacation and moving off the
    island. Oh well.
As healed as it will ever be. They pulled a metre of titanium wire
out of it a couple years ago. Now it's just doing the slow
degeneration thing until I can't walk at all. Luckily, the knee
is degenerating more slowly than I, so I haven't really noticed.
There's a lot of good food, wine and beer here on the island...
well, there was when I got here anyway.

Hey Dr Ivan! How's Brunel treating you?
So long as you don't end up in the wrong Sidney. http://tinyurl.com/yy2jkp

Actually, if you end up in Victoria... BC, I can provide a couple
beers as you wait for the next flight.

    Hello Marc

My trip is already planned so I hope to be excluded from your soothsaying.

How's the degree going? On course for whatever they call a first over
    there?

Pretty much. Although it's not exactly a 1st string institution,
I'm pretty happy with the quality of the instruction. I extended my
sentence by a year to take more senior courses, but then I need
to find a graduate school. Vague noises are being made about
coming back to the UK for that... very vague. More like stay
    in Canada.

Well, I've got a long-standing ambition to make it out to your current
location so I'll keep that in mind if I ever make it.

    Smoke it :)
If UKRM hits, you'll notice that because the whole island will have
    suddenly run out of beer...

's funny, I'm not one of these premonition types but for some reason I
decided that travelling tonight was a bad idea. No real reason, just a
bad feeling - so I figured I may celebrate the New Year at home
instead, in the company of UKRM[1] instead of driving up to London as
    originally planned.

[1] Shoot me now, I guess...

Well, I'm not averse to trying anywhere, really ;o)

Except the Poles (North and South, that is, not the people from that
country). I don't like it when it gets too cold.
So, you've invited people over there to visit just before you leave for
other climes, and it looks like you just might have got rid of the good
food, wine and beer before we get there anyway...bleeding cheek! ;o)

  18. Giving me the run-around at the moment -- seems no-one's ever
requested a promotion from RA1A before so they don't know what to do.
I've been boosted into the process for Academics so it's going to take
a year rather than a couple of months.
Sidney, Montana wouldn't be too bad. But, Sydney, Nova Scotia...
Line up a few cold Mooseheads.
