"man climbs ladder higher than empire state building", or thereabouts.

Makes me queasy just watching it.

It's the way he lets go with both hands at the top to attach his safety line
that had me breaking out in a sweat. Do they have parachutes?

Bizarre, my palms are sweating just watching it - I am obviously a
    complete whimp.

    Certainly made my hands tingle.

Having just slipped down my home-made extension ladder (short ladder
lashed to the top of a longer ladder) for a rest from Leylandii
lopping, I was so grateful for that oggers. Sort of puts things in
    perspective.

    Right, where's that chainsaw?

Just when you think he's at the top - there's more!

Perversely enough, when you're climbing with ropes it's the bits where
the normal person would think the most dangerous that are safest - if
you're clipped in and climbing something overhangy the rope will save
you and you will swing away from all the hard stuff.

But if you're faffing around at 4ft off the ground on something that
slopes nicely away from you, and you slip, you will scrape yourself down
everything in sight and then probably twist your ankle.

Not so much use when you're 1700ft off the ground and haven't got a rope
    though.

Sure. But what I'm saying is that so long as he's clipped in he's
generally safer than if he were 4ft off the ground.

    "pass the pliers"

    "thought you had 'em . . ."

    Whatever they're paid, I couldn't do it.

I know very tall buildings move quite a few feet in a strong wind.

I wonder how far this thing moves when it gets going?

I'm not sure it'd move about so much, as it appears to be a cable-stayed
tower so rather than just being anchored at the very bottom like tall
    building, it's anchored further up.

Either way, the only way you'd get me to the top is Champ-style.

I found it hairy enough climbing 100 foot cold blast cupolas in the
white hat days. At least they were proper ladders with plenty of hoops.

I believe the Hilton in Park Lane can sway by 6ft at the top when it's
very windy and thats only 22 floors

Wire ropes still have a fair degree of flex in them, though.
I dunno. I was quite happy climbing ships' masts when I wer' lad,
like. Then again, I'd need to be clipped on, and these days I wouldn't
actually have the energy to climb that high, but somehow it doesn't
look anything like as bad as standing on the edge of a cliff.
