another breakdown/recovery thread

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Doesnotcompute, Oct 15, 2003.

  1. Just sorting out my insurance docs and I note that H and R can provide
    RAC for fifty quid.

I asked what the cover was and apparently it is:

"Full RAC European Breakdown Assitance" including: Home Start, Roadside
assistance, Onward transportation for the riders, your motorcycle and
    any passenger.

Now by my reckoning, this is the same as, RAC solution 3 (www.rac.co.uk)
which covers roadside, recovery and home. At a cost of £119. PLUS £30
for onward transportation PLUS a further £90 for European cover.

So am I missing something, or am I actually being offered 239 quids
worth of cover(if you paid RAC direct, I'm not talking value for money)
    for 50 notes?

Given I am highly likely to gain a PM# at some point, having only a 10l
to the brim tank, I reckon that it's worth doing. Just one Uk recovery
would bring a return on investement, let alone any possible Euro recovery.

    Any thoughts? comments? [1][2]

[1] except RAC are shit and are usually unable to do bike mechanics at
roadside, I'm aware of this (previous customer) but I also can't do
roadside mechanics so just being able to get recovered is good enough.

[2] and no point giving it the GF are better, no AA are the mutts nuts,
no RAC are the worst, the offer is only for RAC.

Why not just ring them up and get more details?

  3. I have, that's what I quoted. I'm working on the "if it seems to good to
be tgrue, it usually is" basis and seeing if anyone has BTDTGTTS and
found out that it was too good to be true.

I can't see why you've any reason to be suspicious but see if they'll
send you some written details of the cover offered.

I think your figures may also be out for going direct to the RAC. I
currently pay £90/year for all the services you've mentioned and when
I went to Spain earlier this year it cost me just £14 for the European
    cover.

Perhaps it only covers the bike unlike my RAC policy that covers me
    for driving/riding/passenger in anything.

Mine does that. Very useful if ever a pikey in a heap gives me a lift.

  7. came directly off their website. Unless I'm reading it wrong.
Was that £14 just for that one trip perchance?
    *ding*, I bet that's it.

it's hardly the broker's fault that the underwriters don't want to
    cover the sodafarl-wogs, is it?
