    I sense tissues ...

Seriously mate, you're at a life nexus (if that's the word). Anyway,
a nodal point, if you get me.
You've discovered bikes and chucked the car, right? (Paging Salad
Dodger ... ) Now you've discovered uk.r.m. on the screen and IRL.

And now you are, obviously seriously, considering breaking a nine-year
relationship. The choices you have made in the past few months and
apparently in the next few, will affect your life for years to come.

Looks like you're growing up ;-)

    Good luck, fella.

  4. We're in one hotel. That's about 50 of us. There's a free place up for
grabs, so we have a draw on the first night and some lucky soul gets a
free weekend (well, accommodation only in this case, but still not to be
    sneezed at).

I'll have to keep an eye out for the next one. Unfortunatly I was
unable to get time off of work at that time as about 8 other people
    have already nabbed it.

I hope you have a great time!

I hadn't realised that was happening. I've made some really big
    decisions, which started last November.

I decided that I needed to be more selfish - While there is nothing
wrong with helping out other people and giving up ones time to help
others, I was giving up something like 20 hours a month (day and
night) working as a Listening Volunteer at The Samaritans, plus being
a consultant and trainer for them for a new email system. I was
giving up my free time to help out other people at work who couldn't
handle their workload, while not getting paid any extra for it and all
the time feeling more and more shit about it.

Then a close friend, who had HIV for 8 years, suddenly died at the age
of 30 from a totally unrelated condition: From, "Oh I think I've got a
cold, Nick, I'll call you back tomorrow" to being dead five hours
later from Septicaemia brought on by Lymphatic Cancer - neither of
which he knew he had. Thirty isn't an age to pop off, is it? A week
later, I went to visit his partner, who wasn't taking it very well.
He insisted we meet in a hotel room, so I made my way to London only
to find him dead from an overdose.

It changed my view of a lot of things. I decided that if I didn't do
things NOW then I might never get a chance to do them, which is why I
started this whole bike thing. Binning the car and getting a
motorcycle was something I had fancied doing for a while and I thought
that it would mark an important change in my life. I *hated* it at
first, but now I bloody love it. It's such a challenge.

I can't wait for my 2 years to tick over. I'll keep the ER5 until
then (or until it finds a bus/lamp boast/tree) and then get something
a bit lovely. I've only got 23 months left of bike shopping.

I'm not sure that taking up camping is a good lifestyle change,
though. I like things like heating, running water, brick walls, etc.
I guess I am. Now I've got to start to catch up on those years of
youth that I spent at home being miserable.
    Thank you.

I don't think I can blame it all on UKRM, and no, I haven't pulled (I
haven't even tried to pull) although I could do with losing some
    weight...

Erk - not a nice set of events.

I've done the "helping people so much you have no life" routine and it
ultimately doesn't work if you end having no time for yourself. The
dreaded word is "balance" - something that is hard to achieve.
I can recognise that scenario. When you work out how to catch up then be
    sure to let me know.

    I would second that comment.

I binned cars a few years ago I've not looked back, except for life
    savers. :)
You'll decide, only to see something more shiny and lovely the day you
go to pick your new bike up.
Like riding a bike, camping is seeing the world without a window. Sure
it's cold and wet sometimes, but it can be a lovely experience too.
Although camping in a pub car park next to a road is slightly less than
    an ideal spot. Heh...
I can relate to that. Sounds like you're pushing out your comfort zone
and gaining insight as a result.
I think respect is due mate. Good luck, and keep yer bike rubber side
    down.
