  1. Aye. And when we were trying to sell our house we would have had a much
    less stressful time..

Mind you - having ended up staying in Swindon is a good thing [1] and
(had we sold our house) we wouldn't have stayed.

    Phil.

[1] From my viewpoint. Whether Swindon sees it the same way is a whole
    different kettle of equines..

    Yeah but a slowdown isn't a crash ... yet.

BBC news at lunchtime mentioned a 2% drop in mortgage value between
    9/03 and 9/04.
That sounds to me like the desired result of increases in interest
rates, not that the bottom is about to drop out of the market.

You only paid a hundred quid deposit? That doesn't sound right -
according to my Ducati Club Cliquey Mates they had to pay a
lot more than that for theirs...

  5. Break it for parts and sell 'em on ebay.

    No, seriously.

  6. What he said.

Only worth doing if you have the tools, patience and time. And can cope
with the bloody fools who bid by mistake.

I mean, check out this recent auction of mine. And the winning bidder
has just said that he's only now realised they aren't OE, and doesn't
    want them after all.

    Ffxake.....

    Steve P says...
A Kings Lynn used bike dealer bought a year old SV1000S last week from a
desperate seller. He gave 3 grand for it and sold it 4 days later for
3500 quid. That's how cheap bikes are at the moment.

  10. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember
    (The Older Gentleman) saying
    something like:
"Foreign (ie: non-UK) bidders: I accept international money orders
(IMOs) in sterling or US dollars, but add £4 or $6 because that's what
I'm charged to cash them, or cash in euros, sterling or US dollars. "

You want to have a serious word with your bank if they're charging you
    to cash sterling drafts.

  11. Whoops. Good point - they charge me for US dollar drafts, not sterlig.
But the Yanks don't seem able to source sterling drafts anyway.

Nope! Don't have the know how either, although I know a man who does.
Definately can't! My b-i-l has had some Max Power type stuff up this
week which he got on a business trip to China. What a pfaff getting rid
of one damn steering wheel proved to be mind you he did turn a tidy profit.
I'm now thinking of plan B which is to keep it but buy a bike for
    commuting on as well.

  13. Now you are thinking correctly. Running a spare hack saves you money.
Check out Aunty Carole for cheap multi-bike olicies.

  14. Same here - issued through Barclays. Other currencies too. *And* you get
    a better interest rate.

Your first assumption is that Merkins even recognise the existance of
other currencies. I remember an American visitor that was dumb founded
when he learnt that US dollars weren't widely accepted in Britain. He'd
only been in the the country for a couple of hours and discovered this
as he tried to cross the Severn Bridge[1] in his hire car.

[1] Who did actually take his dollars in the end but the exchange rate
wasn't what you would call favourable.

That sounds like a sensible course of action. Were I in a cash business
I would do the same to any merkin.

It was more of a "get a place in the queue" than a formal deposit, I

Oh pant beard. That's me that is. Just trying to decide whether to
get rid of my T reg CBR600 now or keep it until next spring.

When will dealers price guides get updated to reflect this big change
in prices? I went into a Honda dealer a few months ago and they said
that a mint CBR600 FX on a T plate would fetch around 3.7k private
sale. They even said around 3.2k straight dealer puchase (I think)...
sounded too good to be true then and certianly seems so after reading
    this thread. :-/

Now - about this breaking lark...

    (Fitz) struggled to ejaculate:
That was a few months ago. All I've read in the past couple
of weeks is about how slow used bike sales in general are, and (as
they are the most common/popular bikes) they are literally awash with
tidy used 600cc sports bikes. My SO, the Lady Elly of this parish
reckoned she was lucky that the dealer she did SOR through attained
3400 quid for her 51 plate FSport (~16k miles but fucking immaculate,
just serviced, brand new chain and sprockets, tyres and brake pads).

With all due respect and not knowing the mileage or condition
of your bike, I reckon you'd do well to get 2,800 quid for it now.
Well, exactly. If you wait till Spring and there's no upturn
in the market, the dealers will be hip-deep in 600cc sports bikes.
    Get the spanners out ...

  20. Dobles, down the road from the Chateau, have 12, that's twelve, used
    CBR6s on their showroom floor.

Yours will have to be cheap to compete.....
