Huh? What kind of crappy charging system do you have? I retrofitted a light
switch to my bike. I turn them on when it gets dark.

Don't you realise that Shane's had a long and extinguished professional
career riding imaginary bikes and he's even pretended to train other people
    in imaginary riding skills!
Just because he doesn't seem to know anything about motorcycles, professes
to be too scared to ride on the road and doesn't even know common biker
words like "cage" there no cause to think that the knowlege and skills that
he's finely honed through his decades of imaginary experience is any less
relevant than say..... ummm... ooohh ... [struggles to think of ANTONE
    whose opinion he'd value less].

But Zebee, if all these people who would normally ride are driving, then
there are clearly fewer bikes on the road for everyone to hit... of
course there are going to be fewer accidents...

I'm not sure that the figures above are entirely correct.

eg. I was coming off a freeway at dusk (Kingsway exit Westgate Melbourne
(near Sydney (not))) when the bike went from under me. when I got up
    (someone
in a car helped me get the bike up) I walked back along the road to see what
    it may
have been. I saw a banana peal on the road. no couldn't have been that. but
    there
was my tyre print in it and looking at the other side you could see where it
    slid on
the road corresponding to where my tyre hit it.

So who is at fault? me or the idiot that through the peal out of there car
    window?
(How do I know it was a car? it's hard to negotiate a 55km/h bend eating a
banana and through the peal as well)

I reckon that's THE most bullshit "fact" you've ever spouted and I would
bet you that brightly-coloured helmet crashers exceed the black-helmet crew
by a factor of about 5!!

seek him out then isn't it?

The company WE keep is fine thank you very much Shane.
And it'll stay fine so long as we keep pig-headed, loud-mouthed idiots like
    you out!

As is a silhouette against a sea of headlights or a brightly shining
    background.
By making it MANDATORY you remove the rider's ability to best use the
    conditions!

Happens to me all the time if I'm on a pushy or my daughter's 250.
People work on "threat recognition" and if they don't percieve you as a
    threat you wion't even register.

Besides; you're not debating anything! You're just repeating 'policy".
Dale's an experienced, intelligent and thinking road-user with a history of
participation in motorcycling forums and safety initiatives.
If he said it it's good enough for me!
Or what some big-mouth half-wit blow-in who can't stand having his
    "authority" questioned yells at you....

I ride with low beam on at all times. It's a decent H4 shell with 18W park
lamp wired on with the headlamp and casts plenty of peripheral light.

Do I think it makes me invincible? No. Do I think it tips the odds in my
    favour in many conditions? Yes.

Lights on for me thanks, but your choice is your right.

From the Vic parliamentary report (summarising the literature)
".... drivers respond more quickly and accept longer safety gaps when
motorcycle riders wear red and/or flourescent jackets than when they
see low beam headlights, larger fairings, or no extra conspicuity
equipment. However, coloured helmets have no effect."

So those who ride with lights because they feel it's safer should buy
flouro jackets immediately. They are way better.

Of course anyone who has ridden an odd bike (like Bluey or the Baby
Beemer) or ridden an ex cop bike, or ridden around looking like
they'll rip off an errant driver's head and spit down the hole knows
that it's not about colour at all...

It's about either looking cute and interesting or looking like you
    could do damage.

IN other words, it's still exception processing, but it's way way more
effective to convince the driver either that they will get pleasure
from seeing you or pain from not seeing you. It's always what's in it
    for the other bloke...

It's not a pack mentality Shane; the people who've responded just all
    INDIVIDUALLY think you're a dickhead.
I'm sure there are people who don't know you yet though.

Apart from that he only comes here when he wants something or when he wants
to stifle any conversation he finds vaguely anti-police!
I don't know about Smee but I'd never share a campfire with such a
    self-serving leech.
