Annual insurance hassles

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Sep 27, 2003.

  1. And despite another year of claim- and conviction-free riding, my
premium (fully comp) goes up from ukp380 to ukp512 for the Trophy and
the Duke. The Trophy is one insurance group up from the Divvie that
preceded it, but even so they're both still very low-group bikes.

Odd - Carole Nash is usually very competitive, and I've been with them
    for years.

Mutter, mutter..... Spend the time I'm not spending at work trying to
solve Level 17 on the Laser puzzle[1] on the blower to various inscos
    and brokers.

CIA Insurance - 350 quid. Result. And that includes the little Suzuki
    GN250 I'm collecting in an hour's time.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. They quoted 176ukp FC for my
T/Bird. After a little bit of hassling they came down to 146ukp. I was a
little annoyed that I didn't try harder.

They're probably anticipating all the administration costs they incur when
you call for yet another change in the bikes :)
    Can't even get past level 6 :-(
    Nice.......I think......... <googles>........... Oh my god, it's
    hideous.....

  4. It's really for The Doctor, as a shopping trolley. She refuses
point-blank to ride the MZ, and the 400 Four is just too nice to be used
    in winter etc.

Just picked it up. It's a very pleasant little bike. Not fast -
definitely not fast - but the engine sounds as sweet as you like. It
needs a damn good clean and attention to the exhaust, which isn't
    blowing yet but soon will.

Have you rung Auntie Carole back and told her how much you've been
quoted? The last couple of years I've had the same scenario... Renewal
from CN comes through at about 300, ring round, get quote for 180ish,
ring back CN to cancel and they match the price.

  6. Yes, that happened last year. I'd be surprised if they can get anywhere
near 350 quid, though. However, as you say, worth a try.

Well, I insured the GSX through them this week... £370 TPFT.

Someone else quoted me £255 TPFT with a similar excess, but when I
considered the benefits like breakdown cover, cover to ride other bikes and
unlimited Green Card, plus the generally good reputation Carole Nash seem to
have in these parts, I thought maybe they were worth the extra.

  8. Good question. ukp250 on the Trumf, 150 on the Duke, 100 on the Suzuki.
    Or something like that anyway.

Not bad, they want £300 on the XJR.
