Try searching those three sites for her name & see many results you
get. If you've genuinely managed to avoid seeing *any* of the articles
about her over the last decade, you must have amazingly selective
reading skills. I suspect the reality is that, like Champ, you just
    don't remember seeing them.
Yes - but by that time I've absorbed the headline.
I wouldn't have the TV news on anyway, unless waiting a few minutes for
whatever follows to start. In which case no, I wouldn't change channels.
That's an incredibly arrogant statement. Having an interest in
celebrity-based current affairs doesn't mean you're ignorant. However
having no knowledge of them could be construed as such.
If you find that upsetting, you must be incredibly sensitive! For the
record though I don't find it remotely interesting, but I don't go out
of my way to avoid hearing about it either. Like you, I also read a
news website every day, & her death was the main headline yesterday
evening. If reading that headline makes me ignorant in your eyes, then
    so be it.

I think you're getting confused. It's quite possible that I've _seen_
an article or three, but incredibly unlikely that I've ever clicked
on, let alone actually read any. The filter kicks in very early.
Ahh, well maybe that's the difference, but OTOH if that were the case
you'd have absolutely no context, so the name would not be able to
    stick.
I was talking about me, you idiot.
    Oh I am.

I think it's down to the level of saturation. As has been pointed out,
she's been in the news a *lot* in recent years. I don't know how or
where I first 'knew' about her - it probably just dribbled in through
    my eyes/ears over the years.

OTOH I'm very much in the Champ/Ace camp when it comes to most minor
celebrities. I've very rarely heard of any of the people on Celebrity
Big Brother/Come Dancing/Love Island etc etc. However if one of them
made headline news, I'm fairly sure I would hear about it, no matter
how unimportant they were in the grand scheme of things.

It's purely the fact that ANS *has* been headline news on several
occasions that makes me surprised people haven't heard of her.
    Ah, that's ok then.
There's a link to the rainbow poem up there ^^^ somewhere if you fancy
    a good cry.

I'm still a little upset about this blatant meme-invasion though.
You'll be fitting gold taps next.

Heh, in the late 60's I was in my Junior School's quiz team. I was
asked 'Where is the Black Country?' and wondered why the adults pissed
themselves laughing when I answered, in all innocence, 'Toxteth'.

  10. At least you have a) a girlfriend and b) a text-phone. But I did
know who ANS was, having been subjected to a non-stop barrage of CNN for
    years.

However, I'm great at pub quizzes, despite knowing nada about
celebrities, TV or sport. Everyone else can do those; they can't do
the science, history, geography, current affairs or food though. Well,
that's what pub quizzes had in them when I used to be on a pub team in
the '90s, anyway. Have they changed?

  16. I'd say it shows bad taste, which of course is personal and
subjective, but I'd far rather read a decent novel, watch a classic
film, listen to some stirring music than waste my time reading glossy
magazines (whose sole purpose is to sell you tat you don't need) or
watching any TV programme that relies on a C list non entity for its
    appeal.
Then I'm happy and delighted to be ignorant. I did recognise the name,
purely from my habit of scanning the BBC news site, so I remembered
the past court battle story. However I resent the fact that it
occupies a piece of memory that could be used for better things.

High culture vs low culture anyone?
