When I saw you name in this thread I knew exactly what your post would be. Do you have some little program that generates these replies?
My granny loved H&B, thought it was wonderful that two old ladies could be popular on TV. We had to tell her eventually....and then she wouldn't watch them after she found out they were a drag act. Bless.
In the case of ANS, you'd have had to avoid watching or reading any news for quite a long time to not know who she is. She was quite a big story on two occasions - once for marrying a billionaire 200 years her senior, & again for the inheritence court battles with his family when he died. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
It's because both you and Ace continually manage to not have heard of many people who, whether you consider them newsworthy or not, are regularly reported on, not only in the tabloids and Hello/OK type mags, but also in more mainstream and upmarket media. Anna Nicole Smith has been a news item, whether you or I think her worthy of it or not, on and off since her marriage to the old multi-billionaire gimmer 10 or so years back. What with the court case after his death, her appearance in Naked Gun film(s?) and her own TV show (shown over here) it would be pretty difficult (IMO) for one *never* to have heard of her, regardless of whether one considers her a 'non-entity' or not.
Perhaps some people just have a better memory for names, facts and figures. I know personally I tend to remember names and details I read far more readily than assocating names with faces. It's odd that I can recall fairly insignificant things I read years ago, but often if I meet somebody I'll have forgotten their name a week later. The worst thing is I don't really want to remember useless crap, and would much prefer to remember people's names.
LOL, I wish. I usually forget names (& everything else) within seconds. I even rented a film once that I'd seen on TV the night before. I guess I do kinda understand your point, but the combination of the drawn-out news coverage plus the somewhat unusual name is what makes it surprising that you didn't recognise her. Do you think you'd recognise the name Alex Litvinenko in a few years? Especially since the court case has resurfaced over the last six months, her son died in September and she had a baby a month later which put her at the centre of another legal battle. I really do wonder sometimes if Champ, let alone Ace, really makes an effort with current affairs at all! But then it makes a great game of "Spot the 'Who?' quote" for UKRM.
Well I'd never heard of her, nor of her marriage and inheritance battle. I watched, open-mouthed, the news this morning as they galloped through her history. -- Marina Mayes - Reading, UK.
