That's not bullying. Continual verbal intimidation, emotional and
    physical assualt. That's bullying.

The RC church did it's bit through schools, convents etc. of course but
in the main part the Prod and Jewish communities were victimised and
driven out, IIRC some 50,000 people at least and 3000 killed. Those who
had stood against the lot inheriting power didn't fare that well either
    I believe.

Note that the parliamentarians seeking devolution before WWI were
    secular and mixed religions.

Also of course the poverty brought down on the nation drove a
substantial part of the population overseas.

That was exactly what I wonder about. The southern states in the 30's
and 40's might have had a lot of sympathy for Her Hitler's ideas. With
victory and domination over much of Europe, with many Germans living in
America, the American anti-semitism at the time, I'm sure the Nazi's
would have curried relations with the USA.

They might also have been seen as part of the jigsaw against Communism
assuming HH had also had the sense not to invade a country the size of
    Russia.

  11. I probably would have said Russian rather than German, and
that's all pretty speculative anyway. Besides, if it weren't
for you folks, we probably wouldn't be speaking English either.

Not that this would necessarily be a bad thing, mind you.

We should all hang our heads in shame every time we have to
teach some unfortunate child how to spell the English language.

Cuban Communists taking over the U.S. was the old scare
tactic. The threat that you =need= to worry about 24/7
nowadays is terrorism, not communism. Do try to keep up,
Tim! bin Laden might be headed to your town. Tell the other
sheep and be afraid - be very afraid.
Thank God we have bu$h (with God on his side) to protect

Of course Americans just don't get it.

Unless there are goals every 2 minutes, timeouts every 30 seconds and
only American teams playing in their "World Series", then the sport
    doesn't catch on.

It gets worse. Verdi was telling us last night that they are putting a
team in the Rugby World Cup. I dunno how they are going to cope with
    that without padding.
