And then they came for the cyclists

Just let go of the handlebars and keep pedaling, you might surprise
    yourself.

i'm not trolling, but i really can't see why pedestrians don't have to take
out 3rd party liability insurance. the number of them that just hurl
themselves out into the path of oncoming traffic, even when they're only
10 metres away from a pedestrian crossing specifically installed for their
convenience and safety. the damage to the vehicles they can collide with, as
well as the psychological trauma caused by their demise and/or mutilation,
can really mount up in cost yet they are not held to account!

    what he said.

I was knocked off my bike a few years back by a pedestrian running out
    through the traffic.

Well the Germans used to have the idea of a 3rd party liability insurance
    for everyone. Seems perfectly fair.

  11. I successfully caused a ped half-somersault when he rushed out of
stationary traffic just as I pulled to a halt. Nice belly-flip over the
    pillion seat, it was.

  12. There's no accounting for them.
While pulling out of a side road in the dark, I awaited a gap in the
traffic and gunned it. Unluckily for the ped on the other side of the
road who'd spotted the same gap...
He made a screen (bike screen, not car screen) adornment for about oh...
half a second while I hammered the brakes, picked himself off the
    mudguard and groaned a bit.
Well, the silly fucker shouldn't have been dressed all in black and been
black himself; there was nothing that stood out. "At night, be white."

  13. They do in Switzerland[-1]. Costs about CHF15.- per year IIRC.

    [-1] Or something v. similar.

Just five francs, in fact. All bikes have to display a valid sticker,
and they do occasionally have crack-downs on it. But at that price
    you'd be stupid not to.
It also covers damage and theft, which is quite astonishing VFM,
although TBF cycle theft is so rare they won't have many claims to
    deal with.
