Got a job interview all day on Thursday!
20 miles from where I live, (current job is 3miles) about 7k rise, but more
    resposibility.

Looks like it could be bike hunting time. :)
Would I be wise to say "**** commuter bikes, I need a litre sports bike."
It's only 20 miles but the first 10 will be in thick traffic going to work
but traffic free on the way home.
The last 10 are nice and twisty ;-)

    I'll know by Thursday night.

I don't favour any particular brand. I've enjoyed riding every big trailie
from Africa Twin vintage onwards. They all have merits and would be ideal
for a 20 mile, mixed terrain commute.

I'm on record saying the Tig is a damn fine bike. I just don't have the
legs for it. Before I rode the fuckers it was top of my list.

I have a GS because a) I rode it and liked it b) a sensibly priced used one
    came along.

FJ 1200 works for me :)

I do between 42 and 50 miles per day, depending on the route I take.
