Either the France family, "Jimbo" France in particular, or Grand AM are
now the new owners of 2 wheeled road racing in this part of the world,
at least that's the story we're getting here at the *WORLD CENTER of
RACING*, no press release as yet, but it's a done deal and according to
a pretty knowledgeable source, it has been for some time now. The
reasons for delaying the "coming out party" were not only to link the
announcement with the 200, as well as get the OEM's onboard, but to
firm up who got the rest and while rumors were flyin' all over the
place in Sav and B'ville no word as yet on who got Flat Track, but
don't be surprised if Romero, or maybe even Kidd are in the mix.
If there's a winner that means there were loser's(we know who you
are;-) so, if I lived out around Laguna I'd savor that 2nd race, as I
kinda' doubt it's gonna' be around much longer. Racing's commin' home
folks and if just half of what I've heard actually happens, in a very
    big way too...

DIS and I'm pretty sure they've been saying that since well before your
    start date..

The weather this morning is pretty nice, clear as a bell, about 72 with
a hint a humidity, though I'd imagine that will change somewhat before
    the Stock races this afternoon..

The Short Track race last night wasn't the usual dog fight we've come
to expect at Mermorial Stadium, Jake Johnson took the hole shot from
the pole and when the guys behind got all racy he walked the dog..

How about your mate Davies? Both him and Hodgy have been very near, or
a the the top of the time sheets for the 200, could this be the year?
How 'bout the "worm"(Pegram) too? He's got the 848 Duc singin' that
sweet song I like. Hmm, I wonder, which is a longer shot, the Limey's,
    or the Duc?

    Later...

AMA selects Daytona Motorsports Group to manage professional racing
    series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA)
    announced today
that the Association has entered into an agreement in principle to
    sell the sanctioning,
promotional and management rights for its AMA Pro Racing properties to
    the Daytona
Motorsports Group (DMG), based in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Led by Roger Edmondson, the founder of the CCS motorcycle racing
    series and currently
the President of the Grand American Road Race Series LLC, and Jim
    France, Vice Chairman/Executive
Vice President of NASCAR, DMG will assume responsibility for the AMA
    Superbike Series,
the AMA Motocross Series, the AMA Flat Track Series, the AMA Supermoto
    Series, the
AMA Hillclimb Series and ATV Pro Racing. The agreement in principle
    does not include
the AMA Supercross and AMA Arenacross Series, the rights to which are
    held by Live
Nation. Daytona Motorsports Group will license the use of the AMA name
    and trademarks
to promote their motorcycle racing activities.

"For as long as I can remember, the AMA name has been synonymous with
    professional
motorcycle racing in America," said France. Added Edmondson, "Our goal
    is to guide
the sport into the mainstream of American culture and showcase the
    extraordinary
abilities of the competitors and their teams."

"We are honored to be working with the Daytona Motorsports Group,"
    said AMA President
and CEO Rob Dingman. "This group of individuals has supported the AMA
    and motorcycle
racing for decades. There isn't a better-resourced or more qualified
    entity in which
to entrust the future of AMA Pro Racing."

The agreement between the AMA and DMG came as a result of an RFP
    (request for proposal)
process undertaken by the AMA in September, 2007 to seek promotional
    partners for
its professional racing series. The AMA will continue sanctioning
    amateur motorcycle
    racing and club activities.

"Today is a great day for professional motorcycle racing and for the
    AMA," Dingman
said. "By placing AMA Pro Racing in the hands of people with a proven
    record of
excellence in motor sports organization and promotion in a fashion
    similar to our
successful partnership with Live Nation, the AMA will be able to focus
    its resources
on its core mission to be a member advocacy organization."

DMG, huh? Hmm, it's got a nice ring to it, especially the D part.. ;-)

On another note, you'd think the weather Gods, or "somebody"(Bill Sr?)
with a little pull is pulling for Speedweek given how we've dodged the
weather bullets so far. Last weekend was about as good as it gets
around these parts and it sorta' carried on through the week, that is,
until yesterday. I was very surprised the SSport wasn't rained out and
had it run long, or started late it would have been. Last nights GNS
was lucky too, as it was raining all over town, just not at the
Stadium, at least not until after the feature. (BTW, Johnson won,
again!) There's tornado warnings up today for all of east Cen Fl. and
heavy rain and much cooler temps. are headed this way too, so, I'm
thinkin' tonight's SX will probably be a mudder. (swamp races? It could
happen.) What all the rain means for the 200 remains to be seen, though
from the looks of it I think it's fairly safe to say the track will be
green, if not a little "damp". Anyway, it's Friday at Speedweek, time
    to paataay...
