<g> To be fair I did say I had no problem with adults smoking, but
wanted a total ban because it was the only way I could think of to
    stop kids getting addicted.

And I'd put money on it happening eventually, except I probably won't
    be around to collect.

I know LJK Setright, I trimmed his long term loaner Honda Prelude in
leather back in 1992/93. Decent enough bloke who gave my work a good
    write up at the time.

I usually do, too. But five minutes before I wouldn't have been thinking
    about smoking.
I rather enjoy one after a couple of days abstinence.

Can't remember, TBH, but I do remember you having your first large
beer about 10:30 each morning, and assumed you'd have a smoke then
    too.

  8. somehow I don't think banning smoking will help this. if you're not
allowed to do something there's a high majority will do it anyway.
this happens with all things you're not allowed to do, how many kids
do you know who haven't tried a joint?

  9. Do I smoke while skiing? I honestly thought I didn't. Thin air, gloves
and trying to roll a cig usually puts me off.

I don't know enough kids well enough to allow a sensible answer to
    that.

My guess is that currently a lot fewer kids try joints than try
cigarettes, and I also guess that they're a bit older and wiser when
they try them. If it was cigarettes they were trying for the first
time then they'd not even get the buzz from the first few that you get
from joints, so I guess even fewer of them would persevere.

I've now got quite a few people disagreeing with me. Do you all find
the present addiction rate amongst kids acceptable, and if not how
    would you change it?

    Colin Irvine, Feb 11, 2005
  14. I wonder how many kids are "addicted" to cigarettes. I smoked from the
age of about 10 and was never to this day addicted. I doubt there are
many people on the planet addicted to nicotine and would guess at around
zero kids. Kids smoke because they think it's big and clever. Same
reason I did. They can stop whenever they want to. If they reach
adulthood and continue, so be it.

Like I've said before "Don't run with scissors".

    I'm off for a smoke.
